The Summer Street Bridge Disaster

Something I often like to do when researching a disaster which took place on the streets of a city is to "visit" the location using Google Street View, and take a look around at what the place looks like today. It's surprising how often there are still visible remnants from times gone by.

Here's the location of the Summer Street Bridge over the the Fort Point Channel in Boston. If you take a virtual walk around you can still see the rails that would have moved the roadway, and some metalwork bearing the date when the bridge was built (1899).

The surroundings have changed more or less beyond recognition, but if you look hard enough there are traces of the past just waiting to be found.

What a way to start the day! But glad you found the video interesting.

It surprised me too. Very often with deadly accidents, the vehicles involved (and even their numbers and callsigns) are taken out of service. I guess times were different back then!

Fascinating Horror

Well done. Hard to believe that they tried to put the trolley back in service.

Splendidly done- now my Tuesday can begin!
