Blitzkrieg lingered at the police station as the officers helped coordinate the aftermath of the parade. He didn't have to do anything at this point. Everyone who had been injured was in a hospital. The wreckage was cleaned away, and everyone who needed to get home safe had done so. The mayor of Berlin and several Prime Ministers who had been there had been in to see him and gone once more.

But Karl didn't want to leave yet. The big wolf lingered in a side room, pacing, waiting to see if the miniature horse who had caused all this tried to escape. He was shaken, and knowing where Smeltlinger was being held didn't help. He had nearly died. Nobody realized how close he'd come, everybody at the parade thought he'd been able to escape on his own and defeat Smeltlinger. There wasn't a single other person who had seen the Phantom Fox. The crowd had simply seen their national hero save them, seen the horse get pulled out of the robot and beaten up by an invisible force, which they just assumed was him moving super-fast. He'd knocked the horse out and was the hero of the day again.

And Phantom Fox was living up to his name, just gone without a word. Blitzkrieg rubbed his forehead and sighed, pacing as the police woman in the room left on some errand. How had the fox know? Had he been in league with Smeltlinger?

"Took her long enough to leave." The disembodied voice made Blitzkrieg tense and he twitched his head left as the door locked behind the police woman. There was silent moment, and the hazy, ghostly sight of the black clad fox standing beside the door faded into view.

"You have two choices, Phantom," the big wolf said in sharp, commanding tones, "Explain yourself, or surrender." The wolf squared his broad shoulders,

"What no thank you?" The red fox's tail flicked back and forth as he walked towards Blitzkrieg, the long red flag of fur passing through the table like smoke. He reached out a paw to trail fingers down Blitzkrieg's chest, and the wolf tensed. A spark jumped to the fox's fingers, making him jerk his paw backward. For a moment, the fox grinned, rubbing his paw as he stepped back, ignoring the room’s furniture by walking through it. “I think I deserve a reward for saving your life.”

Blitzkrieg knew trying to fight the fox conventionally was pointless, but he could still avoid his advances.

"Do I have anything to thank you for?" Blitzkrieg's glare was obvious even behind the mask. "What were you doing at the parade? How did you reach me so fast?"

The fox's smug smile widened, “I was on your parade float already, of course!” That big tail of his swished slowly back and forth through the table behind him.

“Why,” the big wolf growled, trying to loom over Phantom. Blitzkrieg knew physical intimidation shouldn’t really work on the fox, but it had always seemed to, at least for him.

“Because it was your float of course!" The fox’s grin was the only thing that didn’t become see-through as he approached the wolf completely at ease. "I'm at every one of your parades! I'm always at your appearances..." Phantom stepped closer to Blitzkrieg, his voice dropping lower as he looked Blitzkrieg up and down, eyes raking the wolf’s spandex clad form. "I watch you all the time."

The fireplug shaped wolf growled. He did not like the way that sounded as all, but Phantom wasn't solid. He couldn't do anything to the fox beyond jolt him a little. If he could catch Phantom off guard, he could taser the fox into unconsciousness; he’d managed to do that in the past. "You're stalking me then, ja? Are you attracted to me den? Is that why you kissed me?"

“Of course I am,” the fox said, rolling his eyes and reaching out again. Then he paused, hesitating and meeting the wolf's eyes as if asking permission. Blitz gave a curt nod, and the fox's paw solidified as he began caressing the big wolf's chest again. Blitzkrieg breathed faster as the fox’s fingers stroked across his muscled chest. “

Phantom was... too close. The air felt heavy, like just before a storm, and Blitzkrieg could smell the fox. Phantom had a musky wood scent that made Karl’s chest tighten for some reason with arousal. “So, do I get my kiss for saving the handsome hero?”

Phantom leaned up, and the wolf tensed, almost pushing him away, but Karl didn’t. There was a soft pressure on Blitzkrieg’s lips, a ghostly kiss that tried to mimic the insanity and passion of their kiss during the attack. The wolf felt a soft tongue press against his lips, but Blitzkrieg stood stock still like a statue, and Phantom pulled back. The wolf wanted to shove the fox away, to stop this tightness in his chest, but it wouldn't accomplish anything. So Blitzkrieg lashed out with words instead. "So, you convinced Smeltlinger to do all this just so you can 'save' me, huh? Just to get a kiss?"

The fox's eyes were half closed from the kiss, but his eyes went wide as the wolf spoke. The fox’s mouth fell open, and he gaped in shock. “What! No Karl, I would never... How could you think I would work with that miniature psycho?” Phantom fox said in a shocked voice.

Blitzkrieg's eyes widened and electricity sparked through him, before he jerked away at super speed, growling loudly from the other side of the room as the fox faded fully into view. "What did you call me?" Blitzkrieg said in a startled, dangerous tone, and Phantom Fox’s ears splayed out suddenly as he realized what he’d said.

Phantom Fox looked down, his tail falling, “Shit...” he muttered, and his ears flattened more as he blushed hotly with shame. He looked as though he were cursing himself inside his own head. "Fuck Blitz, I..."

"You know who I am?" Blitzkrieg grabbed the fox, and he did it so suddenly that the fox was still solid for a moment before vanishing between his fingers. "How? Tell me!" Blitzkrieg's voice was full of sudden panic and he began to frantically think of where his daughter might be now, but the ghostly fox surprised him even more with another kiss, solidifying in his arms.

They kissed hard, struggling against each other for a moment. When it broke, Blitzkrieg's eyes opened wide in shock. In the few moments he’d been invisible, Phantom Fox had pulled his own mask down, leaving it hanging around his neck. Karl gaped at the familiar face of the fox he was holding.

It was Eric, his neighbor.
