Hi Punks

Welcome to the first subscriber only post! It's much like all my other posts, but you can only see it if you're a subscriber. Ooo!

Some behind the scenes BEAUTY TIPS

-

In the picture above, you can see what happens when my hair won't co-operate with my normal hair-grooming plans which is have a shower, pin it up off my face with some bobbypins so I don't feel like spiders are touching me on my face (I don't like hair on my face, because I grew up with actual spiders) and assume it'll look fine. Usually it looks fine.

-

But sometimes it doesn't look fine.  So when it doesn't look fine, and continues to look stupid even when I take it down and put it back up again (usually works, like rebooting a computer) you get this. Which is that I stop trying to make it stay in its normal curls and so twist it into spirals around my fingers until it bloody well stays PUT.

-

Side-effect is I look like Predator. But obvs heaps more sexy. The Sex Predator. Yeah! Um. Or no.

This is the most you'll hear me talk about my hair.

Work and Comedy News

Speaking of money! I've just wound up my run of The Resistance with a week at The Butterfly Club in Melbourne. Bringing the show home was a nice end to what has been a very nice tour. Applications for next year's festivals are all falling due now, so it feels like the new year is kicking off from now. It's a weird time of year for me, emotionally. But in work terms, it does feel very much like the turn of seasons.

-

I think that's the end for The Resistance, though if there's enough demand I might do a few one-off nights here and there. (Let me know if you want me in your town! If you think it's likely I can pay for my flights and accommodation and dinner, and walk away with something in my pocket, I'll do whatever place you guys suggest.)

-

I'll be gigging in Melbourne, Adelaide and Sydney in the next few weeks and months, but it's not worth listing little gigs here. If you're wanting to be up to date on what's happening *tonight*, your best bet is to follow me on @aliterative on twitter. If you don't do twitter then facebook, and if you don't do that... I don't know how to help you. You're probably a very well balanced human. Maybe I'll start a mailing list. (Let me know how you feel about a mailing list.)

-

I am working for The Project on channel 10 now, just writing gags here and there one day a week. It's a fun thing to try to write specific for other people's voices, and to be in a collaborative space again.

Personal Droops

Today is the anniversary of my mum's death, so I think instead of my scheduled teacast, I'll put up the podcast that I did with her a few months before she died. I feel like that is a sort of tribute thing. I'll be putting a new one up on Friday though, so if you don't feel like traveling back in time, you won't have to wait that long.

-

I'm spending the day just being sad and thinking about the past and the future, which is inadvisable when you have lots of work to do, but... today is the day I'm going to just do it anyway.

Subscribers!

Thanks to the new subscribers! I'm going to start doing some more subscriber-only posts, so you guys get a bit of (well deserved) behind the curtain special feelings.

*Also, the necklace I'm wearing is actually a keyring on a shoelace, because I can't justify spending money on glamorous things when I could be spending it on making more stuff happen. But it does the job. Boom. FUNCTIONALITY is the keyword of today.

No worries! My greatest fear is of doing the finger ringlets and being accused of white-man-dreads

I have to say Alice, it's been fascinating watching a year in your life and understanding just how intensive it is from a creative and business perspective. The miles you've covered, the venues you've played, the people you've met and all the technical aspects of your craft - all of these things I had little appreciation of before observing you across the year. It is quite a career and I admire the hell out of you. Vale to your Mum on this day. I still have that vivid memory of the sketch you showed me and I'll always regard that as something special from someone who was quite special. When I make my cup of tea this evening, I shall sip it quietly in her and your honor. As for your hair dilemma...I got nothing. If there is one thing I've learned through bitter experience - a man must simply shut it and "don't go there girlfriend!"
