Music talk for nerds!

Hello everyone! Apology for the lack of posts I have been having internet issues so it has been difficult to get things out.

In the mean time though, one of the sound designers from last post (jake) talks about how he made that song:

Hi everyone, Jake here! As one of the newest members of the team I would like to share with everyone how we make our OST and Foley work. Most of the music you will hear in the game is going to be produced by a program called FL Studio. That is where I made the Audio REF posted. I didn't make the audio alone and had help from another person "ShamanStems". We worked together to make the audio as nostalgic as possible and to touch the heart of the listener as much as possible. We started in B-maj-♭ at 78-BPM. we did this to keep it just slow enough to let the bass sink in and have the B-maj-♭ give off the soothing feel. I referenced the music from old SEGA games like Shining Force 1 and 2. And had lots of inspiration from other creators. In FL Studio we have thousands of different presets to choose from and finding the right sound is a difficult task. that's where my friend came in clutch and gave me the preset I needed and it fit in just like a puzzle piece giving you the sound that you hear in the audio clip REF posted. Currently another team member "Pineapple" is working on another version of the audio clip to see if we can make some more variations for future levels. When it comes to Foley work (recording sounds like footsteps and breathing) things get a little more difficult. You are described the sound the person wants and you have to think of how you are going to replicate that sound with the resources you have around you. I use an SM58 studio microphone and I usually just go around my house banging things with a fire poker until I find the right sound I want (yes it's dumb but it works) I run the recorded sound through Soundation so I can have people work on it with me in real time that way it gets all the effects and modifications done to it as fast as possible. We have quite a large sound team compared to the other teams and even then we still have an our on our plates. I want to thank all the sound team members for the hard work they do and I want to thank Sven for giving me this position. It has been an amazing experience making audio for all of you wonder people to enjoy. Sincerely-Jake

We hope to! (This is ref not sven so things can change) but right now we're in talks with our publishers and also directing something to come out. But don't get me wrong, development and modelling is occuring! I will show some behind the scenes content hopefully within a week of some environment dev.

Noah Moody

When it comes to Backrooms games, the attention to detail you & the team are exhibiting are second to none. God help me I SERIOUSLY cannot wait to see the full release!

Wesley Martin

I love that so much attention is being dedicated to sound! It really makes or breaks the atmosphere of a game. It’s also what has given certain games a permanent spot in my memory.

Btw ignore all the grammatical errors. Proofreading is not my thing.
