Annnd with this, I’m done inking SuperButch Issue 7! We haven’t been finishing the pages in order, but I wanted to share some progress!

My original idea for the cover was to show the store window and “Vote this way” sign with Captain Turtle’s shadow crossing menacingly over it. It probably would have been hard to do a recognizable Captain Turtle silhouette using ink wash. Barry had a few other ideas, so he sent me these:

I thought that showing a beat-up Captain Turtle in front of the sign would be too spoilery and a not-banged-up Captain Turtle would be weird. (Barry assured me that covers don’t have to match what happens on the interior, which inspired me to dress up the “this way” lettering on the sign.) I liked Barry’s top-middle design because of how it teases the story. So I ended up combining 2 of Barry’s cover ideas, one of which was an adjustment of my original idea, which feels appropriate to our workflow.
Speaking of workflow, I just had a 17-mile bicycle day 😎🥵 I had to go downtown this morning and felt superstitious about inking anywhere except the cafe 7 miles away where Barry and I have been meeting. It’s Week 5 or 6 of picking a day that’s Inking Outside the House Day. I’m happy with the results, both in the amount of productivity and how the pages look.
It’s getting late, so I’ll leave you with a photo collage entitled: trying to figure out Tammy’s melting ice cream pose in panel 2
