The Rocket by Ray Bradbury

Compared to the other stories in The Illustrated Man, and even on its own, this is a remarkably cute piece of sci-fi. Please enjoy.

This should have been posted in July, so please enjoy the sudden rush of audiobooks as I catch up before the end of the month.

This is about the first audiobook I've ever listened to, and it was absolutely great. Even if it is about a rocket, it is absolutely timeless and I love it.

That was a very lovely read, def made my morning. I'm curious to know what do you think about the works of Haruki Murakami.

I think it remains poignant in large part because it speaks to the enduring way that the promises about the future never trickle down to the poor in a way that improves their quality of life by more than the barest of degrees. Stories like this, about poor parents trying to make do and have fun for and with their families, are timeless. The fact that it's a concept design for a REAL rocket adds a bit of extra sting to it. Bradbury's good at making stories that sting like road rash.

I've never been incredibly familiar with the works of Bradbury, having read maybe a couple short stories when I was still in grade school, but even now, at 23, this is one of my favorite stories.
