The Distended Eye, my old book

Largely for archival purposes, I'm making my book The Distended Eye available to the public. While I'm not terribly proud of it anymore, it goes against my archival instinct to bar it entirely from the scrutiny of readers, and so I'm offering it for free as a PDF. It's definitely a sophomoric effort in my eyes, but people have told me they enjoy it.

Honestly, despite not all the stories being my cup of tea, I loved your writing and the ideas and think you're very talented. I hope you write more weird fiction soon

Madeleine Swann

I consider myself to be a "creative type", at least whenever I get the urge to create something. I play a couple of instruments, I build electronic stuff, got a few chapters of a novella that I'm kinda sorta satisfied with. The only problem is that I never finish about 90% of the "projects" that I start. I've dragged boxes of electronics/computer gear, music equipment, automotive stuff, piles of reference material/books/magazines related to all these various projects, around with me through six house moves over the last decade, at great expense in time and labour. Maybe I'll get that book finished first though. One of these days. And that's why I'm a technician, not a creator. Be proud of everything that you create... if nothing else, sharing your early work offers the opportunity to receive new and constructive criticism that makes you a better artist/creator. Some of it will be useful and some less so, but it's all fuel to the fire right?

Speaking as an author myself, as early of an effort as it might be (dunno, haven't read it yet, though I will), it should be something to be proud of. Most people say they'll write a book, but they don't finish. That carry-through is the first step to actually being a creator of any kind, so be proud of it, warts and all.
