Death's Visit 3

“Alright Rosalie this is no big deal. The guy’s a scumbag who will probably just target another woman. You’re doing a good thing here.”Rosalie mumbled to herself as she stalked a middle aged man out of a bar. She had been trailing the guy all afternoon waiting for the opportunity to get him alone. It seemed that now she finally got her chance. Looking around to make sure no one had noticed them she waited until he stopped in an alleyway to pee on a wall. Scrunching her nose at the action Rosalie waited until he was finished and his pants were zipped before she grabbed him by the throat and slammed him against the opposite wall.

“What the fuck!!”The man screeched out. His eyes went wide when he finally got a look at Rosalie.”Well hello. Aren’t you a pretty little thing.”

Rosalie snarled at the look of lust in the man’s eyes. Her disgust fueling her courage to do this.”Shut up.”

“If you want it rough I have no problem with that. Except I prefer to be the one in charge.”The man tried to grabbed Rosalie’s arm to overpower her but wasn’t having any luck.

“I told you to shut up.”Rosalie took a deep breath waiting until she felt the presence. She knew it would come. She just had to finish what she set out to do.

“Ok you don’t like talking. I can work with that.”The man tried to lean in to kiss Rosalie but earned a punch to the face instead.

“Don’t you dare try that again.”Rosalie wasn’t going to let the man touch her.

“You bitch.”The man struggled harder against Rosalie trying to gain his freedom.

Rosalie punched him in the face again.”I don’t like being called that.”

“Who are you?”The man’s fear was palpable and Rosalie thought if he hadn’t just gone he would have pissed himself.

“I am what is going to stop you from ever violating a woman again.”Rosalie told him.

“Help!!”The man screamed.

“No one’s going to help you.”Screwing up the last of her courage Rosalie tightened her grip around the man’s throat breaking his neck and killing him. It was as she dropped his body to the ground that she felt the presence.”I know you are there.”

Isabella was shocked that she was at yet another scene of the blond vampire killing someone. She usually didn’t get assigned to repeat offenders. From what she knew assignments were given at random. This being another random time seeing the blond surprised her. She was hoping she would get the chance but it was still a surprise. Taking in her surroundings and the condition of the body of the man’s soul she had come to collect she had a feeling that the man was not going to be going to heaven.

“Look I don’t know what or who you are but I want to talk to you. I killed this guy so I would get the chance.”Rosalie wasn’t proud of herself for the way she went about it but desperate times called for desperate measures.”And I will likely continue killing until you finally speak to me.”

Isabella wasn’t sure what to think about that. Never before had someone killed for a chance to talk to her. It was somewhat flattering if she was being honest. That didn’t mean it was a good idea. The blond did peak her interest. Not enough to show herself but she was interesting. It didn’t matter though. Isabella had a job to do. That job being grabbing the soul of the dead man and helping him pass on.

“Please.”Rosalie pleaded. When she felt the presence leave she felt like sobbing. Taking a deep breath she pulled herself together and went back to the bar. If the presence wanted to be stubborn Rosalie would just keep killing.

“I know you’re back.”Rosalie said one dead man later. It had taken over an hour for the man to leave the bar but once he did she wasted no time getting him alone and killing him.

Isabella was once again surprised that she was called to collect the soul of a man the blond vampire had murdered. She wasn’t sure exactly what was going on. The blond had threatened that she was going to keep killing until Isabella spoke to her. Isabella had just thought if the vampire did someone else would have been assigned to the souls. That was not the case though. Something was amiss and she wanted to test her theory. Grabbing the man’s soul she stepped through the portal to the underworld and left the blond on her own.

“Why are they being so stubborn.”Rosalie sighed. She was going to have to find a different part of the city to pick her next victim. It was a good thing she had planned ahead and had a list of names that the world would be better off without.

“Look I’m immortal. It may take me a while but I will kill every scumbag on this earth just to get you to talk to me.”Rosalie promised when she felt the presence.It had taken a while to get her next victim but she had and now standing over his dead body she hoped it would be enough to start a conversation. She jumped when all of a sudden a woman appeared in the abandoned building she had taken her latest victim to.

“You would be doing society a favor if you did.”Isabella told her. She had delivered the last soul to hell and waited until she was called back before she revealed herself. Isabella wanted to make sure that she would actually be pulled back to the blond and it wasn’t just a coincidence.

“Who are you?”Rosalie asked.

“I’m Isabella.”Isabella told her.

“I’m Rosalie.”Rosalie took a moment to look the woman over. Isabella was tall with chestnut colored hair that fell to the middle of her back and dark brown eyes that had flecks of green throughout the iris. It was those dark brown eyes that made Rosalie realize why she felt a connection to the woman. This was her mate.

“Well Rosalie what is that you wish to speak to me about?”Isabella asked.

“I know you have been with me every time I have killed someone and wanted to not only know why but to thank you.”Rosalie said.

“Thank me?”Isabella hadn’t expected to be thanked.

“Right after my turning I was obsessed with getting my revenge. I almost lost myself to the rage and anger. It was feeling you at the scene of each murder that reminded me that I wasn’t alone. Your presence pulled be back from the edge and stopped me before I let it consume me.”Rosalie explained.

“That wasn’t my intention but I’m pleased that you gained something from me being there.”Isabella had never heard someone say that they were comforted by her presence before. Usually people were uncomfortable when she was around them. Even when she was disguised as a human.

“Can I ask what you are?”Rosalie knew Isabella wasn’t a vampire or a shifter but had never figured out exactly what she was.

“I’m a grim reaper.”Isabella told her.

“Wait what?You mean like you collect souls and escort them to the afterlife?”Rosalie wasn’t sure she believed Isabella.

“That’s exactly what I mean. For some reason I keep getting assigned your kills.”Isabella had thought the first few murders since they all happened in a short period of time were the reason she collected their souls but didn’t think that was the reason anymore.

“You don’t usually follow one person around?”Rosalie asked.

Isabella shook her head.”No, even with serial killers it’s more than one reaper. It’s almost unheard of for us to meet the same person twice. Let alone the numerous times I’ve met you.”

“Do you have mate bonds?”Rosalie wondered if that was why Isabella was assigned to her specifically.

“Not like vampires do.”Isabella told her.

“What do you have then?”Rosalie figured reapers had to have something.

“All mates are decided by our guardian angels. A reaper having one is rare. To find out who they are our angels tell us.”Isabella said.

“Grim reapers have guardians angels?”Rosalie asked.

“Of course. Everyone has a guardian angel.”Isabella thought that was common knowledge.

“Do I?”Rosalie hadn’t thought angels were real. Being faced with a grim reaper made her think they actually did exist.

“Yes, although I don’t know who they are.”Isabella didn’t go out of her way to find out who was assigned to everyone.

“How do I find out?”Rosalie was very interested in meeting her guardian angel.

“Angels don’t usually reveal themselves to humans. It only happens during extreme situations and they have to get permission to do so before hand.”Isabella explained.

“But you could talk to them right?”Rosalie figured if Isabella brought souls to the afterlife then she would have to interact with angels.

“I could. Why do you ask?”Isabella wasn’t sure what Rosalie was getting at.

“Well I just thought maybe you could speak to them for me so I can ask them some questions.”Rosalie had dozens of questions for her guardian angel.

“I don’t know if I’m allowed to do that.”Isabella had never been asked to question an angel.

“Would you be willing to find out?”Rosalie hoped Isabella would.

“I guess.”Isabella wasn’t against doing Rosalie a favor. The blond intrigued her enough to want to see her again.

“Thanks.”Rosalie felt better knowing that she may get to talk to her guardian angel. Getting back to the topic of mates she asked.”If your mate is picked by your guardian angel how do you form the bond?”

“Once we are told by our angel who our intended is we usually go through a period of courtship. During the courtship we get to know our mate better and form a connection. That is important because with out actually willing choosing to complete the bond the ceremony to complete it will fail.”Isabella had seen it happen and the results weren’t pretty.

“So a reaper has to chose to accept their mate.”Rosalie didn’t like the sound of that.

“In a sense. However they do feel drawn to their mate and have an immediate fondness for them. The reason a reaper doesn’t have the instantaneous love and devotion as others species do is because we aren’t capable of feeling either.”Isabella told her.

“You can’t feel love?”Rosalie asked.

Isabella shook her head.”We were created to help the dead. It doesn’t matter what someone has done during their lifetime we have to help them. We can’t feel regret, sorrow, anger, love things like that because it would interfere with our job.”

“How does mating affect that though?”Rosalie wasn’t sure how she would have a relationship with her mate if Isabella couldn’t love her.

“That’s what the ceremony is for. Once it’s over our emotions towards our mate change. That’s the reason we have to choose. Some don’t want to have to deal with the feelings. They prefer to stick to their regular lives.”Isabella had never really thought about what she would choose.

“What would you choose?”Rosalie needed to know what kind of fight she had on her hands to get her mate to accept her.

Isabella shrugged.”I guess it depends on what type of person I am given.”

“You aren’t against the idea then?”Rosalie asked.

“No, not really. It just isn’t something I have given much thought to.”Isabella told her. Feeling her watch buzz Isabella checked the notification.”Look it’s been nice talking to you but I have another assignment and I need to drop this guy off before I go.”

“Is there a way to contact you?”Rosalie didn’t want her mate to leave without having a way to get ahold of her.

“The best way to contact me is to kill someone as it seems I have been assigned to you personally. Other than that I can always come visit you.”Isabella said.

“When can you visit?”Rosalie wanted set plans.

“I don’t have too many things going on tomorrow. Would that work for you?”Isabella wasn’t opposed to seeing Rosalie again. The vampire was interesting and she liked talking to her.

“I’ll be at my house all day. Do you know where that is?”Rosalie was going to skip school. That would give her the house to herself because the rest of her siblings would be at school and Carlisle and Esme would both be at work.

“I can find you wherever you are.”Isabella just had to focus on Rosalie’s soul to find her.

“Then I’ll see you tomorrow.”Rosalie said.

“Good bye Rosalie.”Isabella took moment to fade out and with one last look to Rosalie took off after the man’s soul she needed to reap.

“Good bye Isabella.”Rosalie sighed when she felt Isabella leave. The reaper had given her a lot to think about. Then main thing being their mate bond. Rosalie had always thought when she found her mate they would instantly fall in love and live happily ever after. Now knowing her mate was reaper who couldn’t feel love put a damper on those plans. Rosalie wasn’t upset being mated to Isabella. The woman had always brought her comfort. She was just worried that Isabella wouldn’t choose to go through the ceremony to complete the bond. Rosalie tried to think of the best way to tell Isabella that she was her mate. Maybe after getting to know each other better. That way Isabella would be more inclined to be mated to someone she knew better. Instead of some stranger. Looking down at her clothing Rosalie realized she needed to change. The family wouldn’t be happy about her coming home covered in blood. Thinking about the family Rosalie wondered why Alice hadn’t stopped her from doing this. She was so caught up in finding Isabella that she didn’t think to hide her plans. Edward probably would have heard them as well. There was no way they would have condoned what she had done. Why didn’t they interfere? Rosalie shrugged. It didn’t matter now. The men were dead and Rosalie found her mate. She would do it all over again if she had to.
