When Dawn Breaks 39

"Get ready I think they figured out something isn't right." Bella told Rosalie as they both watched the front gate from their spot hidden in the woods around the front of the building. The three vampire guards were suddenly more alert and were talking into hand radios. Bella couldn't quite make out what they were saying because the radio volume was low and the vampires weren't speaking that loud. As she felt Rosalie tense beside her Bella put her hand on her shoulder. "When I give the signal we go in strong. Take out the guards and then storm the building. The only entrance and exit we know of is the front door. Peter will let us know if more people come or if some try to flee. Our job is to get the shifters."

Rosalie nodded in reply. She was trying to get her head in the game but it was hard to focus when she knew they were going head first into danger. It was different when they fought Edward and his newborn army. They had a clear plan, better recon and were able to have back up. Now they didn't even have Emmett to come help them. She took deep breath and reminded herself that Bella had this under control. She didn't doubt that no matter what happened Bella would get them through this safely. She had complete trust in her mate.

"Go now." Bella said as she watched two vampires make there way out of the building and head towards the front gate. She didn't wait for Rosalie as she ran as fast as she could and disabled the first guard before they could even sound the alarm. She then blocked a fist to the face grabbing the swinging arm and ripping it off the vampire trying to attack her. He screamed as he grabbed where his arm used to be and tumbled backward. Rosalie grabbed him and removed his head while Bella went after the two left ripped one's head clean off and tackled the remaining one as he tried to run away. He was quickly head less. Bella pulled out a lighter from her pocket and motioned for Rosalie to put the bodies in a pile. "Quickly we need to keep moving they know we are here now."

"Got it." Rosalie stacked the body part quickly and then waited for Bella to get the fire going. Killing the vampires had been easy but she wasn't counting on that being the norm as they got into the building.

Bella took an extra second to make sure the bodies would burn and then ran to the front door. She stood to the side and motioned for Rosalie to open it. When she did Bella moved quickly inside as Rosalie came in behind her. Bella scanned the hallway and noticed it went both ways. She knew they couldn't separate because they didn't know what weapons the kidnappers were using. Before she could make a decision on which way to go voices and footsteps came running from both directions. "You take left I'll take right. Don't let them get past you."

Rosalie didn't bother replying just ran towards the left hallway. Six vampires dressed like the ones that attacked the mountain lion shifters equipped with dart guns came towards her. She reacted quickly taking out two of them as the others were fumbling with their guns. Rosalie realized they thought she and Bella were shifters based on the fact that she had been hit with dozens of darts. If it wasn't such a serious situation Rosalie would have laughed at their confused state. While they had been reloading Rosalie ripped the head of two more of them while deflecting the last one with a kick to the face that left his head barely hanging on to his neck. It took little more than a tug to remove the rest of it from the body.

"Stack the bodies up against the door. It won't stop anyone from leaving but it will slow them down." Bella said as she was already stacking body parts making sure that they weren't easy to put back together. The last thing they needed was for someone to come along and reassemble the bodies. They couldn't burn them in the building until they cleared all the rooms so they would have to settle for stacking them. Once they were done Bella motioned towards the left. "You check to see what's down there I'll check down there."

Rosalie took off towards the end of the hallway. She saw what looked like a large work area filled with random cubicles and office doors along the back wall. If she didn't know better she would assume this was just a regular office building. She didn't know what she excepted from evil people but a bland office setting was not it. Not seeing anyone around she made her way back to Bella. "It's just a bunch of offices and cubicles that way. Some of the office doors were closed but I didn't hear anything so I think it's all clear."

"We should go this way then. This hallway is blocked by a steal door that has a keypad to open." Bella told her.

"How are we going to get past it?" Rosalie asked.

"I'm going to push it in." Bella replied.

Rosalie gave Bella a once over trying to see if she was serious. Before she could question Bella they both were in front of the steel door and Bella had both hands on the door. With what seemed like no effort the door pulled away from the wall and fell to the floor. Rosalie rolled her eyes at herself for even doubting Bella's strength. Her mate was such a gentle soul that she sometimes forget that Bella was probably the strongest being she had ever met. Not wasting any more time on thinking about Bella's strength Rosalie hurried through the door after Bella stumbling back when Bella came to a sudden stop and she ran into her back. Steadying herself she asked."What is it?"

Bella didn't answer, she wasn't sure she could. The room they entered was definitely a lab. It had different stations set up for experiments. What those experiments were Bella didn't know but guessed they probably weren't good. The thing that made her pause though was the cages that lined the walls floor to ceiling containing children. Bella could smell they were all shifters. Her anger suddenly overwhelmed her causing her to partially shift. Her teeth lengthened, her jaw enlarged, her hands turned into claws and she could see the reflection of her glowing eyes in her face mask. Scanning the room she found a human man that was about six feet tall, fat, balding and staring at her and Rosalie like he had won the lottery.

"My,my, what kind of beings are you two?" The man said as he picked up a gun. The gun was different from the ones the vampires used to shoot the darts. Bella wasn't sure what it shot but by the size of the barrel it had to be something nasty. The man pointed the gun at Rosalie. "I think you have done enough damage for the day. Now why don't both of you surrender and I promise that you will be treated very well."

Rosalie didn't even waste time waiting for the man to pull the trigger she was so mad. She had thought she was pissed when she saw Alice being ripped apart by newborns but this was worse. This man was obviously in charge of what happened to the children in the cages and Rosalie wasn't going to let him live. As the man pulled the trigger on the gun Rosalie watched as it hit her chest getting stuck in her protective vest. Before she could get her hands on the man she heard Bella roar and fly past her. In less time than it took her to blink Bella had her hand around the man's throat. She watched as her mate ripped the man's throat out with her clawed hands killing him before he could even plead for his life. Rosalie wasn't sure how she felt about that. She had not only killed vampires herself but had watched as Bella had to but had never seen a human die before. The way Bella had killed him with no hesitation and no mercy was startling.

Bella dropped the human on the floor and kicked his body for good measure. Realizing what she had done she turned to Rosalie trying to get herself to shift back to her human form. As she felt her jaw shrink and her teeth go back to normal she spoke. "I'm sorry Rosalie I shouldn't have killed him. We could have questioned him. It was just seeing the kids in these cages and him trying to hurt you I just reacted. I'm so sorry."

"Why are you apologizing?" Rosalie asked. Seeing Bella's head lowered she reached out and lifted Bella's head so she could see her. "You have nothing to apologize for. I was just as mad. I honestly don't know what I would have done if I reached him first. It was just surprising to watch that's all."

"I'm still sorry you had to be put in situations like this. I think we got everybody that was in here though don't you?" Bella asked.

"Yeah I don't think they expected anyone to find them let alone attack them. What are we going to do with all these kids?" Rosalie didn't like the fact the kids were so unresponsive. They didn't even stir when the door was broken down. It was obvious they were drugged. At least she hoped they were drugged and not so far gone that there was no way to bring them back.

"I think we should have Peter send people to come get the kids. Then I want all the computers and any other paperwork from this building loaded up. We can take it to the estate and go through everything. Once that's done we destroy this place. We don't want them to come back and use it again." Bella looked around the room taking stock of the contents.

"Good idea. I think going to the estate is the best thing we can do. What is going to happen to the kids after we get them out of here?" Rosalie asked. She didn't like the idea of rescuing them and not taking care of them afterwords.

"If it would make you feel better we can take anyone who wants to go with us to the estate. Then we can get a doctor out there who knows about shifters. I'll have to ask and see if one of Gene's tribe has one. If not he should be able to get hold of the doctor who treated my grandfather." Bella told her.

"Thank you sweetheart. It would make me feel better being able to check in on them." Rosalie said.

"Ok let's get these kids out of the cages while we wait for help." Bella then radioed Peter to get some people out there to help them. She made sure that Emmett, Jasper, Alice and Charlotte were sent so she could have people she trusted to get all the worthwhile things to bring to the estate. She didn't trust anyone else to touch that stuff. She may be paranoid but after dealing with Carlisle she didn't trust anyone with important information.
