Undertale: Frisk's Journal - Day 2

Well this was a weird day. I asked Toriel about leaving but she kept avoiding the question. Suddenly, she decided to run off. I followed her and discovered why she was so reluctant. Every human that decided to leave the Ruins met the same fate: death. To prevent that from happening again, and to me, she is going to destroy the entrance to the rest of the Underground. Knowing the future depends on me leaving, I tried to stop her. But the only way that she would allow me to leave is if I fought her.

I did not touch the Light before this encounter, so I do not know what to do. Flowey said this is a world where it's kill or be killed and with Asgore killing the six previous humans, it was likely I had to fight. Something inside even begged me to strike her down with the Toy Knife I found but I just couldn’t bring myself to hurt her. Ironically, she couldn’t either. Her flames look a lot more deadly than the Friendliness Pellets, but they didn’t hurt nearly as much. In fact, it even felt like she was purposely missing. So in truth, neither one of us wished to fight.

So I refused to fight. She tries to intimidate me into attacking, but I continue to not put up a fight. Her facade falls as she ends up trying to beg me to stay. I know we could have a good life here, but I want them all to have a great life out there. Eventually, she understood it as me wanting to return home. As much as I wanted to tell her otherwise, in truth I am a mute. I communicate through sign language and unlike the other kids who didn’t care, these monsters do not know. But with a hug and a promise to never return, I head to the rest of the Underground.

As I head to the unknown, I’m stopped again by Flowey. He said he knows what I did but in truth I have no clue what he is talking about. He swears that I’ll know that it's kill or be killed by the end, but I’ll make sure every monster gets a chance to be free. As I stepped out the door, I noticed a massive drop in temperature. This place I entered is basically like if it was winter everyday. As I went down the path, I felt a strange presence following me. I swore I saw someone yet when I really took a look nobody was there.

As I made it to a bridge, that’s when I finally saw who was following me. A walking, talking skeleton. He was acting very creepy, which then turned confusing as he asked to shake my hand and instead I activated a whoopee cushion. His name is Sans and he has a brother named Papyrus. They’re two walking talking skeletons that I could see being the stars of a sitcom with the way they play with each other. Sans told me to simply play along because Papyrus is harmless and honestly I feel the same way.

To my luck, the lights are out here too so I don’t have to worry about going blind. As I looked into the future again, one of the figures revealed themselves to be Toriel. If I can see her there, that must mean I am on the right track. As I continue to find my way to that ending, it turns out there are some dangers here. Specifically who I like to dub the Dog Patrol. Despite the real danger they possess, they’re still basically dogs. So as long as you play with them and pet them, they become much more friendly to you.

While I was dealing with the dogs, I played along to Papyrus’ traps. And I say traps in the loose sense. The puzzles in the Ruins were more difficult than Papyrus’ traps. Doesn’t help that he makes solving them much easier. But the most unbelievable thing happened that even with the light I didn’t see coming. He had this trap that would create a random path for me to try to solve with so many different color spaces doing different things I doubt even I could remember. But despite it being random, it created a straight safe path for me to cross. I don’t blame Papyrus for flipping out like that. The chances of that happening are astronomical.

But Papyrus did make up for that with what he called the Gauntlet. It had spiked balls, flames, cannons, spears pointing towards me, even a dog tied to it. It was the most threatening thing I’ve seen yet. Despite creating a puzzle that would surely challenge me, Papyrus has a change of heart. He felt it would have been too easy for him to defeat me this way and decided not to use it. While he says that, I can tell he really didn’t have the heart to use it on me for the off chance I could have seriously hurt myself.

But after that, I made it to a village called Snowdin. It lives up to its name because everything is definitely snowed in. As I suspected, the Monsters aren’t really dangerous. Many of them are actually pretty nice. Then again, I don’t think any of them realize I was a human. I guess it's been so long, they don’t recognize one. The Shopkeeper was very informative and there was an Inn next door so I can sleep on a nice soft bed instead of on the floor. Which is good because it seems for me to head any further, I have to fight Papyrus.

This time I touched the Light before the encounter to ensure I knew what I was getting myself into. All paths leading to that ending goes through Papyrus. So I’ve decided to look into how I can get past him. It turns out I don’t really need to do much. If I go for Mercy, he’ll eventually stop fighting. And if he beats me he won’t kill me, just throw me in an easily escapable jail a few times until he just feels sorry for me. So I’ve decided to face Papyrus so I can get through and get that ending.

Deciding I didn’t want to get hurt, I went with the Mercy option. Papyrus is definitely tough. If he was meaner, I doubt I could win even with the knowledge I got. But I got through it and he allowed me to pass. He also said to come by his house for a date. I’ve never been on a date before so I don’t know if I should go to him now or wait a while. I’ve decided to check the light to see what I should do. It didn’t really give me an answer as I guess even it has its limits. So I decided to go now and get it over with.

As I went to Papyrus’ house for that date, I got the suspicion he doesn’t know what a date is. Between all those stat things and him reading a book, it was definitely the most awkward thing either one of us experienced. After realizing he doesn’t like me romantically, we’ve decided to stay friends and move on. After all that, I was definitely tired. So I am going to rest up in the Inn before I continue to the next part of the Underground. And soon I will be one step closer to freeing all the Monsters.
