Bad Dream (Patreon Exclusive)

Thanks for being extra patient for this one. It was supposed to be uploaded last week, but I ended up needing a new computer, and then I needed to order new cables to be able to use my Cintiq with it! Lots of little things to update blah blah, anyway it feels good to have a working computer again. Uploads will be a bit more consistent again from now on!

Because I happen to be re-reading this, and since replies don' bloat the comment section as much, I figured I might as well give a clearer explanation of this fallacy. Say we have two dice representing two nandroids in some area, we throw both dice once a year, and if a dice lands on a 1, it represents that nandroid beginning to malfunction. Chance per die for a 1 is 1/6. Chance that *at least* one die will land a 1 is 11/36. The chance that *both* dice will land a 1 in the same year is 1/36. Now let's say we've thrown one of the dice, and it lands a 1. According to the Gambler's Fallacy, it's intuitive that it is now very unlikely for the second dice that year to also land a 1, since that would give us the very rare double 1 result, which is only a fraction as likely as getting a single 1 per year, so it seems like getting our second 1 now should be very improbable, less so than landing a 1 usually is. But of course, a die is a die, its results do not actually get weighted by the results of other dice, or by previous results. As the second dice is thrown, its chance of landing a 1 is the same as always, 1/6. Remember that the chance of getting both dice on 1 is really just the chance squared, (1/6) * (1/6), the probability is multiplied, which is why it gets so low. But once the first die is cast, and it does land on 1, it means that first probability for a 1 has gone from 1/6, to 1/1, since we know for certain it has now happened. We've already cleared the first hurdle to get to the double 1 result, so the chance of a double 1 is the chance of the first 1 (now 1/1, since we know it happened and that can't change), times 1/6, which is just 1/6, or the regular chance for a dice to land a 1. So if Emmy is the first die, and Molly the second, Emmy malfunctioning does not affect Molly's chance of malfunctioning, at least unless we start taking into consideration possible correlating factors. The Gambler's fallacy is effectively the error of thinking of probability as being something that keeps tabs, that if one unlikely thing happens, it must decrease the likelihood of such an unlikely thing happening again, to "even" the "debt of luck". It's called the Gambler's Fallacy because usually, this fallacy works the other way around, thinking that because an unlikely event (such as winning money on a chance game) may have not happened for a longer time than what is statistically most likely, it could mean that your chance of that unlikely event increase the "more overdue" you are for that event. Which it does not.

Tobias Hagström

I think it would have been in-character for Corbin to point out Molly was using the "Gambler's Fallacy". This can be the belief that because two unlikely events theoretically have less than half the likelihood of happening together in a short period of time as single such events, it means the event happening once makes it less probable that it will happen again in the time-frame we're considering, or within some area. Which is false, even if a double-event is unlikely statistically, once the first event has happened, it is no longer part of some hypothetical pair of future events, it's just an actual event in the past that has happened, with no statistical influence on other events. Or at least I think that's a correct explanation of that fallacy. What I'm saying is that one nandroid malfunctioning does not magically make it less likely for nearby nandroids to malfunction.

Tobias Hagström

This one was a lot of fun, and sweet towards the end. I had a good chuckle at that last panel.

Honestly, Franny and Amy are my favs out of Emmy’s “friend” group. Molly is just so intolerably judgemental. Yes, they all gossip, Emmy included, but Molly sort of leads the group with toxicity and i hate it. I know Sterling is randomizing bugs with each update and I can’t wait till she begins to glitch out and feel how lonely it can be!!!

Angie Mejia-Ramos

I’m really not sure how I feel about Molly like a wired mix of good friend and total b*tch

Seth

I can guess that’s someone of GREAT importance in the history of that house or the family, considering there’s a family crest and cross of arms next to it. It can be a subtle detail this family goes WAY back, maybe implying the family at point was royalty or part of the court (the crest). It can explain why this family is SUPER RICH compared to prolly the whole dang neighborhood of wealthy people 😅

Dr. Rodin

Yeah and even tho Corbin proclaimed he’s “too old” for childish games, he’s seen by Molly as her precious little ward. She seemed a lil sad at the fact, in a sense, her “little boy” is growing up. Molly is the closest thing to a parent figure to him and she sees it that way. She’s super harsh on android standards because she herself NEEDS to be tip top shape to never be taken away from her little Corbin. 🥲

Dr. Rodin

I know this might seem controversial but Corbin might be my favorite character. I don’t agree with everything he says or does. But I admire how precocious he is and how he goes out of his way to be excellent yet still is very much a child

Achinth Murali

Would you mind clarifying the issue? Are you having trouble zooming in? Is it blurry?

Dominic Cellini

It's impossible to read like this. You can't focus in on one frame

Liam Butler

How did they know to give each other a call at the same time? Is it something they planned during the day or is it because they three generally talk over the phone at that hour?

EACA

Hope all is well over there. Rooting for you!!

Madeline Harroll

Might just be me then, since this chapter does seem like something that would be relevant to the main story, as they’re discussing important plot events and foreshadowing potential future stuff. Also how’s that book been coming along? Hope we get some more info on it at least later this year.

Luke Drotos

No I wasn’t planning on that. The ones I make publicly available are the ones purely necessary for being able to follow the story, but anything fleshing things out more beyond that can go here or in the book from this point.

Dominic Cellini

Three pages you mean haha. But if anything I feel like I’ve been neglecting you guys the last month! Definitely some more long exclusives on the way this summer.

Dominic Cellini

I‘m so happy! Thank you so so much for blessing my day with this, Dominic. And uh-oh, I feel like getting a Déjà-vu with this one. 😭

rjaegr

Glad to see your back in action great work as always

Zane Duncan

She had a good size even some places of circuitboard are rotten.

Jefferson Gabler

3 panels?! We are getting spoiled guys

Izo Blanc

Ok, that last joke. I was NOT ready for that. 😂😂😂🤣

Cartoonicus_Studios

The concept of excellence seems ever present in Molly and the other nandroids' minds, she's mean towards anything less than perfection from other nandroids, but it makes all the sense for her to defend high standards. They're all the best of the best, right? Corbin is like that too, a boy who says he's too old for childish things, so it's very nice to see Molly is caring with him no matter what.

EACA

Really nice lighting in this one! Really set the mood!

Michael

Amy 💛

Frenzy

I'm glad you're back again! Great comic today 👍

Stephen

Molly cast in harsh red firelight when she's talking shit with the nandroids vs. the blue shadows when she's calming Corbin is some great visual mood setting.

Glissando365

I see that by "The Other One"; they mean Franny. It appears that Molly and the others thought Franny would be the one to malfunction first. And glad to see that, despite her ice queenish nature regarding Franny, that she still cares for Corbin, as he does for her.

Anthony LoGatto

Good thing Corbin is still a child, in his own way XD

polonsus

Good stuff, as always.

Cosmonaut Chris

I’d cry eyes out if I wasn’t so darn tired right now.

PlayerManZ

My question is more “why does this specific chapter warrant being only for us?” Is it gonna be the kind that gets released publicly later but only one half is available?

Luke Drotos

Because it’s just for Patrons!

Dominic Cellini

It's not that hard, but if it's your first time in can feel kind of daunting since you have no real idea what you're doing and are afraid of messing something up.

Darryl Reyes

Why’s this one say it’s patreon exclusive?

Luke Drotos

Glad to see you’re A-ok and back at it!

H98B

Oh wow the plot thickens as the other droids chatted in their phones! Who's the old man in the portrait at Corbin's house?

Miy Eterp

I knew at some point we’d be building up to Molly getting the glitch Also no worries about the delay, building a new computer can’t possibly be easy

Luke Drotos

Oh man, that was so cute and silly!
