Her low range is really her money maker BUT I do see her having a great upper range if it is developed properly.
I think once she stops pushing the higher notes and mixes her voice a little the sound will be much better, fuller and balanced.
Super glad they discussed the shaky quality in her voice and love that it's something she has worked on and i'm sure will continue too. Would've loved to see her sing something more traditional but I guess YG makes sure their artists only mention YG artists or cover their songs if non-western perhaps.

Idk but like i feel that she sings better in Korean like ik it’s her mother language and all but like when it’s english it’s but she got that little tension on her voice but in korean she don’t really right ?

It feels like almost every few days you can tell exactly what she saw. :( I hate that YG called her the next Jennie because half the dumb stuff people say now is the same things said about Jennie years into BP, but Ahyeon is rookie.

2024-11-27 07:48:15 +0000 UTCI really hope YG breaks a lot of traditions in how they treat their idols b/c BM deserves to continue training and developing. YG's style is vey much 'teach artists to float and doggy paddle, throw them in the ocean, and if they learn nothing else it's on them'... and for some like Winner's Yoon, Minho and BP's Rose that's fine... but I think Ahyeon needs a confidence boost and to keep up with vocal training. The only YG tradition I like that BM continued is they're still willing to debut artists who get... not stage fright, but nervous or tense when performing. We would've missed on some great performers.

2024-11-26 15:28:36 +0000 UTCI usually gravitates towards singers that are big belters but I have a hard time connecting with her voice. A fast vibrato is normally not my cup of tea. That might be part of the reason why (even if Rami has one and is my bias lol) Her voice is really bright and I can’t always feel the emotions when she sings but her low range is where it's at!! She needs to utilize it more but YG put her in a box and it’ll be hard for her to get out of it. She went on Begin Again with Pharita and did a cover of Monster by Shawn Mendes and I was REALLY surprised by it. She kind of changed my mind a bit ngl lol.

2024-11-25 09:52:52 +0000 UTCI say it all the time but the kids at YG should practice rnb more cause their voices would benefit from the smoothness that they lack to me. YG has always had this pop/rock type of vocal to me but has always lacked a bit for me. Just a sprinkle wouldn't hurt lol.

2024-11-25 02:53:41 +0000 UTCi love her midrange so much, but the shakiness and wobble stems from unnecessary added throat and tongue tension, pushing, and not-as-open vowel shaping to invoke emotion/grittiness rather than letting her voice naturally create emotion with correct vowel shaping and less throatiness. similarly, the wobble can be there bc of nervousness or not enough practice on where exactly she wants to place her phrases, so she's just instinctively trying to map out whichever word/vowel to where its more comfortable rather than cleanliness of the phrase (i hope that makes sense bc its hard to describe without actually singing it for someone LOL)

These videos of yours make me want to learn so much about vocal analysis cuz there's always things i like/dislike about people's voices that I can never pinpoint. What you said about her shakiness is exactly when I realized that it's that part of her voice I don't particularly love at some moments. And yes YG is so annoying sometimes with wanting to shelter their artists and keep them in a bubble. Yet at the same time their artists barely interact with each other, make it make sense😭
