(G)I-DLE Concert Reaction

I had to check out SOMETHING of theirs.

They are EXACTLY who I knew they'd be, confident, unique and comfortable in their own skin with great chemistry on stage!

They LOOK gorgeous, the band is fantastic and they KNOW how to perform. It's a shame a lot of their music just doesn't hit for me but it doesn't take away from the experience overall because they're sooo captivating. I really enjoyed Yuqi & Miyeon's solo's the most and man Minnie's piano intro was EVERYTHING!! I'm fucking obsessed with her.

I was expecting some more surprises production and arrangement wise considering how hands on Soyeon is but maybe that will come with time. That arrangement of my bag tho ... :/

What happened to OMG? I would've loved HWA too but tbh Lion made up for all of that. WHAT a monster of a song!

Enjoy!

I went to this tour in Amsterdam last year it was amazing!! In Amsterdam they asked which song we hoped they would sing and a lot of people said Oh My God, so they did a little accapella version of it. But said they were not doing the whole song.

Danja

Hahaha okay yeah I think I'll definitely do some albums at some point and thank you it does make sense to just lower the volume if and when I can lol

Koko3op

Sorry, 2nd round of thoughts after actually listening through the entire thing with you (I've seen this concert video before on my own) I like your latest practice of turning down the volume before giving comments. Agreed, Dahlia performance should have kept unplugged whole way through! They should be braver in terms of staging & arrangement next concert Yuqi, Soyeon, Miyeon (and Soojin) have solo albums. Minnie's is expected year end. I've been trying to get you to react to Miyeon's solo album, haha. I think her taste fits yours better. Perhaps, you can combine the reaction when Minnie's album drops late this year. Yuqi & Soyeon leans towards rock (as do I personally), which is what you noticed with the gidle discography in this reaction Minnie guest sang the hook on Soyeon's rap track for Unpretty Rapstar during the concert. She wasn't a contestant The success of their b-side song "Fate" on the Korean charts may lead to Soyeon doing more melodic songs in future. Her background as a rapper really influences her preference for verbal-hook based choruses Hann-Hwaa-OMG was done last concert, and I think they got sacrificed here because they did not fit "festival" concept

Mint

Soojin was a stand out for me too!!

Koko3op

Agreed! JYP artists don't play when it comes to live singing!

Koko3op

God she really looked like Soyeon to me this whole time

Koko3op

Thanks for the reaction. I actually didn't quite like last year's track list but I know its the only one with a DVD. I think their previous year's tracklist was better as it had Hann-Hann-Hwaa, OMG, etc.. This year's is likely also going to be better as it will have Super Lady. For last year, their concept was "festival" and I usually sigh in disappointment when I hear that in Kpop, haha. It usually means they have picked all the biggest hits only + a few dance songs I do wish they would increase the percentage & volume of live vocals in their future concerts. I know its already pretty high but now that I've seen Twice's Dome performance, that is now my benchmark for live percentage.

Mint

That's always been the simplest way to put it... OT5 is essentially a re-debut, hence some fans disliked it while they gained new ones. I dunno about Coachella frankly. It will be nice but I think Kpop stans overrate it. I actually wish they become more popular in Japan. Because Japan concert lives are the best to watch in my opinion. Example: Twice

Shuhua it’s on the middle at the beat drop of super lady in the music video as well

This was funnn! I won’t lie, I just can’t fully get into this group without Soojin. I was a big fan back when she was in the group, but I just constantly feel a sense of something missing with them, through no fault of their own, and I don’t enjoy them the same. Plus, their actual sound changed so there’s that too. Despite that, still enjoyed this a lot and your commentary was insightful. P.S. At the end of Super Lady for the “back it up” part, Shuhua is always center and was center in the video too!

I love that the members' unique personalities and voices shine in (G)-I-DLE. I guess that's one of the perks of being self produced!

Freya

This concert tour was just nine months after the last concert tour and they rotated quite a lot of their older titel tracks out for the new stuff as they did them in the tour before. So no Hann, no Senorita, no Oh my god, no Hwaa. I absolutely agree with your comment that their success is not because of the catchiness of the music but how they perform their music. It's seriously damn hard for anyone to cover I-dle because their songs are so dependant on the members to bring them to life. It's one of Soyeon's biggest strength as a producer to produce a song that is 100 % fitted for I-dle. But i will also say it will make it pretty hard for her to replicate her success as a producer outside of I-dle should she chose to continue on this path in the future.

Schnaaki

Ooo love this comment! Yesss they definitely did re debut essentially and it was a genius move tbh and it works super well for them, I think Coachella would love them and it would be a very exciting show!

Koko3op

Hello! Nice reaction! I wanted to expand on some things you said during the video if I may: Yes I totally agree gidle's era of Lion-OMG-Hwaa is their best era. From a creative standpoint, lyrics, melody. Everything. But I suspect Soyeon took a creative risk after Soojin was made to leave. Something like re-debuting the group with a new, rockier and stronger sound. The success of Tomboy validated that change and they ran with it. If it is better than what they were doing previously? It is a matter of taste, but they are selling literally x10 times the number of albums they were selling before. I have a question for you: how do you think the US/EU public would respond if gidle performed in a big festival like Coachella? They are as great of a performer as anybody, they sing live amazingly, their chemistry is undeniable and they are at the top of their game...but maybe their music follows mainly the korean taste (with the notable exceptions of Queencard and Super Lady). After the bad reviews of Le Sserafim in Coachella this year (mainly because bad live vocals) perhaps kpop needs gidle to represent it.
