So what I heard you say is, we should inject Ballistol. Got it. :)

Paul McDermott

This thing is so, immensely cursed.

W. Roberts

I think it's a big historical fact to just skip over. Note his stomach got worse without it! Though that's all the Neo formula of that time. Not exactly today's gun oil.

I love the sales pitch: "That was Brandon" Pure comedy gold!

Markus B.

I have to second this. Ballistol is a German company, and they tend to be a skosh sensitive about that twelve-year stretch of time. Even if the bit is tongue-in-cheek, it might fall a bit flat with the folks at the Ballistol mother ship. I've worked with German companies before, the are generally managed by people with humor deficiency. And the only time I've seen Germans do anything tongue-in-cheek everything ends up in sausage casings.

Platypus themed t shirt next year?

Minion

Never been inside a Remington Model 8, have you?

Edward Brush

I don't know if linking your largest sponsor with the most hated man in modern history is your wisest move. That being said, the gun itself is kind of like a car modified with hand controls-- a pain in the ass for everyone to drive unless you're the one with non-working legs. Then it's great.

Thomas Batha

Thanks very much. What a fascinating design. Did it provide the inspiration for Beretta's tip up barrel semi auto pistols?

Derek Putley

Interesting story. Great as usual. Just out of curiosity what does May carry?

Gerald King

Am I wrong, or did this gun have like 8 springs in it, each only doing a single function? JM Browning seen slowly shaking his head, walking away.

I wonder if the "tip-up barrel/load one round" was inspired by the magazine cut-off found on the magazines on some pre-WW1 rifles. Was the idea to save the magazine until you really, really needed it?

Grant Janzen

Having the sights mounted on the barrel was a nod to accuracy! The orientation of the sights would move slightly if the rear sight was mounted on the slide!

William Sirman

that bitch bsuffered from much mnore than doublevision. wow. a johnson cleaning session. fun. though nooo horsesoldiers anymore- like that chincom norinco ugly 77 thing. that 1914 austrian looks more elegant to me though. strange design. very oddball.

Guido Schriewer

Heh, you could throw in the phrase "or Baliistol" once or twice after the word "oil".

Michael James Blum

The shading on the map at 3:41 showing the location of inset on the map of Europe should be a bit darker.
