Q&A for the 28th!

One question per patron and get your question in by Sunday the 19th!

Alright folks, it's been about a year since our last Othais/Mae Q&A so we figured it was time for another marathon!

Questions, of course, are from YOU.  Our patrons!

Ask away and we shall do our best to answer.  There are, of course, some limits to what we can cover without doing a whole week's worth of research, so bear that in mind!

Q&A for the 28th!

Comments

Colt actually spent a lot of time and effort developing a .41 auto cartridge to meet the British requirements and address American complaints about the .38. The cartridge was abandoned when the US required a minimum .45 caliber. If the US army had cited similar requirements as the British the 1911 would probably have been chambered in something very similar to the current 10mm.

Mr. Lee

Alright kiddos, we'll compile these and get to filming!

C&Rsenal

Why didn’t the US try to facilitate surplus Krags to any of the Allied countries?

Funt

What is the best issued rifle round in world war, for the individual infantry, excluding machine guns? In yours and Mays opinion.

John Gaines

What’s the status of the hand trap series, or has that run it’s course? Also is there a Lewis replacement or is Crozier on his own?

Josey

What non waring country had best infantry weapon in ww2?

eRahja

What's the status on the WW1 Galillean scope replication? I know you've mentioned it in the Unloading podcast, but a complete update should be part of this Q&A for the general audience. Just sayin' [or asking? Whatevs...]

Bruce Brodnax

Bruce, you're answering all the questions posed to us and now being very rude to someone to boot.

C&Rsenal

Any chance you guys will do a one-off shorter video series featuring clones of vintage “custom” or modified guns like what the Dillinger gang used or Fitz special revolvers?

Kevin

Everything goes perfectly for C&RSENAL and you are able to hire help. Othais can now get all his work done in a standard 40 hr week and has money to spare. What one thing would you buy to do a primer style video on assuming cash is not a problem. Answer is not limited to small arms, could be planes, tanks, accessories or anything else.

Kevin Reichert

Why did the tilting barrel operating system become the dominant system over others such as the falling block or rotating barrel?

Eric Bergman

For both of you, what are the aspects of a gun that would make it aesthetically pleasing to you?

PizzaPony

What is the crews favorite shotgun, martial or comercial, and thoughts on the early adjustmentable chokes?

Henry Case

Between Othias and Mae, who is a better shot? I know and understand the reasoning as to why Mae shoots the guns on the show, but given comparable “modern” firearms and shooting techniques, who shoots better? Understanding there are almost limitless ways to quantify shooting skill or ability, specifically who is better/faster/more accurate with their chosen EDC gun and then who would win against the other in something like a IDPA or maybe 3 gun competition?

Anthony Louizes

Do any of the firearms in your collections have an interesting history? If so, which is the best?

Minion

Page 488 of Ezell's Handguns of the World states that the English Small Arms Committee in 1900 specified that any self-loader for consideration have a minimum of the following criteria: a projectile of not less than 13 grams, a muzzle velocity of 365 meters/second, and a bore of the best millimeter (that being 10) or greater. Please share your feelings how they managed to almost exactly specify the 10mm Auto cartridge before it was developed and yet nobody took the hint for some 80 years?

Bruce Brodnax

Yes.

Bruce Brodnax

Germany. Steel requires a more tapered cartridge design to extract easily, or else you have to resort to other tricks like fluting the chamber to have adequate reliability on full auto. So, if you have sufficient copper & zinc resources available, it may not be worth the trouble to change over.

Bruce Brodnax

If the US had adopted the Pedersen toggle locked rifle instead of the M1 Garand, what do you think the M14 would have looked like or would it have simply been the FN FAL?

Samuel Christiansen

Over easy. Didn't you listen to the latest Unloading?

Bruce Brodnax

Taofledermaus is up in the Central Valley ["the No" as in Fresno area, I believe] so that's about as much as we know for now...

Bruce Brodnax

Volume 1 of silencer design & history would be a good starting point to render in video form. I don't think the author is ever going to finish Volume 3; hopefully Ian can get ahold of his notes and incorporate his own plans for a book on the subject to finally collaboratively deliver the 3rd volume I've been waiting on for the past dozen? years...

Bruce Brodnax

Clearly, the handtrap series (pick one): part of what makes that series so enjoyable [beyond the sheer goofiness of some of the trap designs] is they're clearly all having a grand time hanging out at the range.

Bruce Brodnax

Germany. Because the only power w/ a slew of submachineguns on hand... The ToE question is interesting tho': I hope they'll answer that!

Bruce Brodnax

Gew98, easily.

Bruce Brodnax

Well, we know Mae's recommendation is the mac&cheez. Me? I always go for the orange chicken... 😄

Bruce Brodnax

Nah, you save the bacon grease for making *soap*... 😉

Bruce Brodnax

Its literally just the google translate app for android I'm using, character-recog is build in, there's probably better ones out there, but that one works for me. Othias mentioned the German books before but I wasn't sure if he actually used them as reference, plus there are more languages out there than German, I wonder if they do the same for other countries, hence the broad question. If you want a source for the Murata Type 22 claim, page 53/55 in "Introduction to Rifles, Handguns, and Machine Guns: A Thorough Study of Japanese Small Arms" (小銃・拳銃・機関銃入門―日本の小火器徹底研究) by Jiro Sayama.

Wolf

6.5 Creedmoor. All the goodness of 6.5 Swede in a(n ever so slightly) shorter action. As long as we're talking bolt-actions, there's no real benefit to giving up the range advantage of a full-power cartridge for an intermediate round.

Bruce Brodnax

Not an expert, but I don't think there were a lot of advances in machine tool tech between the wars, outside of the metal stamping previously mentioned. Nylon doesn't have a whole lot of firearms applications, esp. not at the early stages of its use during WW2 to replace silk. As long as it doesn't require aluminum or advanced modern steel chemistry, they could have done it WW1 about as easily as was done in WW2. Welding came a long way during WW2, but again, that's related to aluminum usage. During WW1, aluminum was still pretty exotic, altho' the price for it had dropped drastically from "more expensive than gold" from just a decade before.

Bruce Brodnax

Colt would be a horrible roommate [the constant lying, shameless self-promotion and illegible notes completely eliminate him from contention] so it's going to have to be JMB, of course... 😁

Bruce Brodnax

Imagine you have a spare room and an empty corner in the workshop: Which gun designer would you choose to live in your house?

fieldgauge

Had the Remington 51 been developed a decade earlier, how do you think the 45 version would have fared in the US pistol trials?

David Herman

With how ubiquitous the Mauser had become before and after the turn of the century, would the United States have stuck it out with the Krag leading into World War I or still end up adopting a Mauser style action even if they hadn’t experienced the Spanish 1893 firsthand in the Spanish-American War? As always love the amazing work y’all do.

Bayley Deaton

Homebrewer here. What is your favorite beer?(if you drink any)

TJ

Which WWI era semi-automatic rifle would you choose to use in the war? Can include both models used and those that were in development during the war.

Andrew Kendall

Maybe but that’s why I added the caveats about making some changes to the design and having time to work out the bugs. The main thinking behind my question is the machining for a lot of WW1 era guns doesn’t look much more complicated then later designs and I was wondering how much of the development in small arms after WW1 was down to advances in technology and how much to new designs that could have emerged earlier.

Alan Munro

Who invented steel cased ammunition, and why would a country with domestic ammunition production continue to issue brass to its military if steel is cheaper?

henry lynn

What country’s patent archives or museums would you want to check out in person most?

Aiden Payne

Minion

What kind of watch does Othais wear with the trench guard?

Doug Brown

Bacon drippings, so lard. 😋

Dale Burt

How do you keep track of extra magazines, as in what magazine goes with what firearm? Love the show!!! And where will you be in CA?

Dale Burt

The irony of this pearl clutching, irrational response. I am asking a question based on my reading of historical critiques against arms dealers in the WW1 era, and was genuinely curious to hear the C&R crew respond to the point. Here you are, bringing some weird modern "AnTi 2a!!111" angle I don't hold and didn't intend with my question. You are the one bringing in modern clown world nonsense to my sincere historical and moral/philosophical inquiry.

EpictetusTheStoic

Have you guys considered doing episodes on early 20th century silencers. I know they're not technically guns but there seems to be a lack of knowledge/understanding of them and there pre nfa status, plus those old maxium ads are a real vibe. (Feel free to use my username. If your need an ad for the vibe heres one from Cody Firearms Museum) https://twitter.com/codyfirearms/status/1006650617979260928?t=z8qCTY7gQ4kz2e7A1M9p6Q&s=19

Bad luck♤

What were some of the most fun and memorable episodes for you guys to make?

Peter A

The old adage is that armies are always preparing to fight the last war. When WWII kicked off in 1939, which country was best equipped with infantry small arms to fight in the trenches of the Great War? If you could pick and choose a lineup of small arms available at this time, what would you select?

James Steed

For both Othais and Mae: What do you consider to be the best bolt action rifle on the central powers side during WW1?

BV

Othais and Mae: You are having dinner at your favorite Chinese buffet and get to pick one historic gunmaker to dine with. What question would you ask them and what would you recommend off the buffet?

Dave Shoemaker

I have 2 questions. If I had to choose between the two, I'd prefer hearing about the first. 1. How do you determine what is more likely to be closer to the truth when going through your sources? When you were researching revolver history you said it was clearly wrong and contradictory when you looked at all the sources. What about something more minor? How do you substantiate your claim in fact rather than feeling if both books let's say seem credible but don't line up? Especially when we're knowledgeable on a subject, we can get that feeling that something doesn't sound or look right. How do we prove that feeling right or wrong? 2. How do you determine which camera angles to use or where to place the microphone to create this video and audio historical database? How do you plan for issues like the Doppler effect?

Philip Spadano

In your opinion what is the most innovative fire arm action.

Michael Baker

What, if any, military arms have made you think "thats it? You had all this at your disposal and thats the best you can do?" Not guns that were actually terrible/terribly designed(like the lebel IMO) or that were simply the best they could do at the time(like the carcano), but guns that made you go "you know you could have done better, but I guess it'll work." If you can't think of an answer, I have an alternate question. Do you save bacon grease in the fridge to use later in cooking other things? I always thought most people did, but I've only met one person under 60 (besides me) that did.

Skylar Keating

Have you considered making a book (or several) with the information you've eked out for so many guns (using a lot of time). Perhaps a collaboration with Ian (Forgotten Weapons) since he's got some experience in the publishing area now ?

Ove Toranger

What guns has May fired that have worried her the most? Before firing ( I don't want to fire this) and after firing (That was worst then expected).

James Wood

Do either of you have experience using Linux, and if so, what distributions have you guys tried?

Alexander Christian

Does the breech-loading naval rifle BL 18-inch Mk I gun from HMS Furious count?

Royeaux

What're your grail guns?/What gun do you really, really want, but can't get for one reason or another? I apologize if this question has been asked before.

W. Roberts

S&W's side-folding approach means you can have any optic on it your heart desires w/o interfering w/ the folding-up-ness... I think S&W spotted the big flaw in the KT Sub2K and is going to wind up eating KT's lunch. Too bad, as I've been around long enough to remember the original Sub9 ancestor of the Sub2K. What a long strange trip it's been...

Bruce Brodnax

Uh, John M. Browning was a *Mormon*. Don't think he's going to go out for a night of bar-hopping... 😄

Bruce Brodnax

The M1 Garand requires stainless steel which was only discovered after WW1 [when certain war reparation cannons from Krupp didn't rust as fast as their Allied's counterparts; investigations into this unusual behaviour ensued...] The metal stamping of the StG44 [and AK-47m, lifted from Germany] was likewise developed during the inter-war period, so neither of those in stamped form would be doable. The STEn is dead simple, but of course, only the Germans saw the value in submachineguns until late in the war, John T. Thompson aside. A milled AK is certainly within the means of any of the major players of the time, but again, the gas piston really needs stainless for anything approaching reasonable longevity in service. But if you gave one to the Gladiator Bicycle works and told them it absolutely had to be in *anything* other than 8mm Lebel, watch out! 😄

Bruce Brodnax

Pix and a reference to the app you're using or it never happened. Also, Othais has already mentioned using the German language books on Austrian handgun development by (whassname) & Schuy. I need to get around to scanning my own volumes so that I can run them thru character-recog and then process the result through Google translate so I can read mine.

Bruce Brodnax

He'd make the Mateba all over again, sold complete w/ all interchangeable barrels and spare cylinders.

Bruce Brodnax

Remember, handgun ownership was unrestricted in that time in England, so Watson might have been referring to his "revolver, of current service type" since the Birmingham gun trade would be producing those for commercial sale in addition to those procured by QV's military.

Bruce Brodnax

He's a Southern boy, so I'm sure that answer's going to be good ol' fashioned *lard*... 😁

Bruce Brodnax

Nobody has done a repro Adams: if they had, I'm sure Othias would be dying to get one! He's already said he'll do the LeMat in due course.

Bruce Brodnax

I'd very much like to know your light box setup. I presume home built? It would be very interesting for those of us w/ any kind of interest in photography [I go back to the silver emulsion & darkroom days; still have a couple of cans of D-72 lying around somewhere waiting to be mixed up...]

Bruce Brodnax

CZ the hipster gun brand? Surely you jest. Never saw anyone spell Glock w/ those letters...

Bruce Brodnax

I'm going to go with "the 1909 was changed drastically from the 1907 to improve reliability and service life" for $1000 Alex... 😉

Bruce Brodnax

Gruyere. You can't make fondue w/o it, but you can make fondue that is solely gruyere. It would be sad tho', so I recommend not going down that horrifying path...

Bruce Brodnax

It isn't available yet. Nice modern equivalent to the Savage 99C that takes box mags [only 4 rounds tho', because sleek & hunting regs usually top out at 5 rds] that should breathe new life into the American fascination for lever rifles because modular AR goodness.

Bruce Brodnax

What military center-fire revolver is Mae's favorite for ergonomics and Beardy's for mass issue logistics?

Will Sanders

Because BP is filthy, and the open top guns kept running longer because less accumulation of crud in the inner workings. Ask any modern competition repro shooter and they'll tell you the same thing, the open top Colts run longer because they let the crud fly out all over, while the closed-frame Remingtons tend to bind up after a cylinder or two.

Bruce Brodnax

Businessman: Bernie Madoff. [should be self-explanatory.] Gun designer: John Pedersen [brilliant, but loved to make things needlessly complicated, and took forever doing so. Must have got his engineering degree in Germany? 😂]

Bruce Brodnax

Same cartridge, the Finns just have a slightly different take on it, probably due to their own SAKO-improved models having slightly tighter chambering than Russki originals for improved accuracy?

Bruce Brodnax

James Fenimore Cooper and Natty Bumppo.

Bruce Brodnax

You can buy replacement m96 triggers from Gun Parts Corp or Sarco, iirc. [sorry, my remembry is wonky, but I'm pretty certain one of those two will have some spares.] As for "matching" parts, the triggers aren't numbered: those are a "wear" part made for easy swappage at the repair depot.

Bruce Brodnax

More hand-fitting in the Brit guns [production methods required it.] Better interchangeability of parts stateside [hence the origination of the term "American-system of manufacture."]

Bruce Brodnax

*A* gun? I should think that either one of them could stretch that amount to cover SEVERAL shooting irons they'd like to add to their collection(s)...

Bruce Brodnax

Kludges, but sometimes the ground troops *desired* something w/ the extra high firing rate of the aircraft mgs, outrageous ammunition consumption bedamned.

Bruce Brodnax

What a strange way of expressing "moral outrage at war-time profiteering." Do *NOT* attempt to ascribe modern Wokist sentiments to our ancestors: they were entirely a more practical lot, and would have severely chastised* any modern blue-haired, tattooed & punctured soy latte drinkin' waste of oxygen who dared approach & try to share their mental imbalance... 😆 * ["severely chastise" - eg, to beat with a walking stick until an unwelcome interruption flees the scene.]

Bruce Brodnax

See also: "Elbonia's misfortunes during the Great War." 😁

Bruce Brodnax

I forget the actual numbers, but it was something along the lines of a grand total of ~2500 were made over a hundred years ago. Natural attrition has probably spoken for the majority of those, esp. as the otherwise identical round kept getting power increases and unaware owners using those later rounds in their Borchardt probably wrote a lot of them off as unfixable after the higher energy rounds broke things. Johnathan Ferguson is your man: I'm sure the Pattern Room had one or more in its collection.

Bruce Brodnax

99 Savage in 25 Savage [aka 250-3000]. First intermediate cartridge, beloved of deer hunters the world over almost from its first inception. [Human animals and deer being fairly equivalent in terms of anchoring requirements in the big game hunting scheme...]

Bruce Brodnax

A different extractor should be enough I would think; after all, that & a barrel swap are all that's needed to convert a CZ52 from 30Tok to 9mmP, and those rounds are far less alike than the 4mm case length difference btw the 9mm Steyr and Parabellum rounds...

Bruce Brodnax

There are some interesting work arounds for OOP rimfire rounds, largely based upon special cases modified to use the 22lr blanks used in the construction industry. These require special placement of the round so that the rim of the blank will be in the correct position to be struck by the firing pin, so no, I wouldn't expect C&Rsenal to try to do anything w/ rimfire repeaters from the Age of Transition.

Bruce Brodnax

Um, I think you meant "black POWDER" there... 🤣 And yes, I believe he's already floated that idea due to the copyright hassles of doing more modern weapons after the Great War time frame [thanks to Dizzy Corp's rodent mascot ruining things for everyone...]

Bruce Brodnax

What is the favorite firearm of each member of the team post Vietnam era?

Kevin Shelton

Now that S&W is copying Kel-Tec's Sub2000, what are the pros and cons of the Smith to the Kel-Tec? Is it the Decepticon to your Autobot Kel-Tec meme gun that Ian hates?

Chairman

What rifle caliber created post world war 2 to today would you run in a bolt action infantry rifle in the Great War? Love the stuff guys. Keep it up 😀

Luke Telling

What was the most fun part of Rob's visit (not necessarily the filmed bits) and who else would you like to bring on the show at some point (given the opportunity)?

litgeek

has anyone sent you the perfect carolina mustard yet?

Tom jones

Are there any guns that you would want to cover but due rarity or lack of reliability won’t? An example that springs to mind for both reasons would be something like the Gewehr 41(M). Keep up the amazing work, I look forward to every episode and the podcast makes my drive home from work much more enjoyable.

Viggen 37

Are there any historical figures you have researched who you love to go out for a drink with? Conversly are there any you wish you could drop-kick into a volcano?

Stephen

If you had a couple of hours of range time with no other pressing demands (I know, fat chance!) what would you plink away with?

Wayne Dygert

What do you think is the most advanced infantry rifle that could have been produced using World War One manufacturing technology? If the plans for guns like the M1 Garand, Sturmgewehr 44 or AK 47 were handed to a large arms company (DWM, BSA, Remington etc) in the 1910s could they have been put into production or would things like the machining technology, precision and metallurgy not be up to it. For the purposes of this question assume that the full technical specification (including for the ammunition) are available, there is plenty of time to work out the kinks and minor modification to the design (such as replacing stamped components with milled ones and plastic furniture with wood) are allowed.

Alan Munro

What is your 'five-year plan' for CnR? Not so much things you would like to do (as mentioned on Podcasts) given unlimited time and money, but things you actually would consider making a list of objectives for to obtain the goal?

DOUG KEPHART

Alright, recently became a patreon but been watching the show for ages, Short version: Do you use foreign language books in your own research? Long version: During my own dive into Japanese small arms I've discovered there's an immense amount of knowledge in Japanese only books such as those written by historian Jiro Sayama (佐山二郎) that just isn't present in any western books. Now I don't speak Japanese at all, but I can compensate with a simple translator app that can work off a mobile phone camera, this works way better than one would think (comparing the machine translations with a fellow researcher who actually reads Japanese) and I've learned a lot from Sayama's books. Love the show and am a bit scared of future episodes, such as the mess that would be the Type 11 history. Keep up the great work. PS: the Murata Type 22 was smokeless Othias, only the trials gun used compressed black powder.

Wolf

With Rob, Bloke, and The Chap submitting entries for Cabin Fever Challenge this year, do you think you guys will try to shoot the event and submit an entry for next year?

FortunateCrumb

What firearm would you choose to be the basis of a star wars blaster?

Alex Barnes

Do turn-bolt rifles with non-rotating bolt heads (such as Gew 88 derivatives) experience similar issues with primary extraction as the early wedge-locking Mannlicher straight-pulls such as the 1886 and 88/90? How big of a problem was this, really?

Christopher Dooley

If you could create the ultimate complex, impractical, but mechanically cool revolver, what would you do?

Nathaniel Wright

I understand this normally takes months, but I would love to see you go through the process of restoring/rehabilitating a non-functional piece for the show. Kind of a time lapse episode. Timing of revolvers would be particularly interesting.

Albini family

In the Sherlock Holmes stories by Arthur Conan Doyle, Dr. Watson mentions his "service revolver". Given that he probably graduated from medical school and entered British Army service in early 1878, and was invalided out in late 1880, what would be the most likely firearm for Dr. Watson to be carrying during the Sherlock Holmes stories?

Robert Peck

Would you ever consider adding filler content in the form of occasional Top Ten style opinion videos, which would be quicker to produce and could use recycled footage, similar to the Top Ten Rifles of WWI idea? I would love to see a Top Ten Most Astheticly Pleasing Firearms (covered by the channel) video. Or even a Top Ten Most Important Revolver Patents video! These could also be converted to shorts to boost that algorithm metric, and they would let your sense of humor shine through like Handtraps did!

AC C

Assuming you guys have now passed the point of financial necessity, how many packages of Top Ramen did Othais actually have to consume when all is said and done?

General Jack Ripper

You are buying weapons for a major military. Which arms company/arms sales representative/inventor would you most like to have try and sell you their product?

Daniel Falch

I've been looking forward to the shotgun series for some time, but to make that rabbit hole deeper, would you ever consider a series on British, European, and American doubles? I know each of these is very much its own subject, and the guns can vary widely in price and availability, but there doesn't seem to be a good resource on the development of these guns (If there is, enlighten me?) To add, because the subject is fairly broad, perhaps a venture similar to the revolver series would work?

Kolton Massey

Question for the both of you. What is the best meal you've ever had and what made it so special? Also, do you have any good sources/books for cartridge history?

Andrew Mack

If you could only use one cooking oil or grease for all your cooking needs for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Quinn Monnin

What was the episode or firearm you dreaded covering most, and why?

Matthew Jackson

I've enjoyed the history of early colt revolvers and Samuel Colt in your reproduction series but I was wondering are you planning on covering any older European revolvers as well such as the Adams or LeMat?

Otto Eastwood

Floating the hypothesis that in a declaration of war on a foreign power a state is actually also declaring war on its own population Im wondering if the first use of a lot of rifles and sidearm's etc of the WW1 period was actually on these said own populations, prior to the outbreak of the war of course.

Donald Brown

Have you ever considered going into the history of how these older firearms were repaired at the time? I know gunsmiths aren't the best at record keeping(I should know lol) but surely there's something out there worth a little discussion. Plus I'll take any info i can get when it comes to figuring out some of these old revolvers. P.S. Remember the friendship chip!

Forforty4s

You both have inspired me to start documenting my collection with writing and photos. Could you describe your photography setup (e.g. light box, lighting, stands)? If others are interested, a brief Clips Episode or C&Rsenal behind the scenes sub-series might be cool. Keep up the great and inspiring work!

Jacob Glassman

Given how many rifles you all get to play with what your favorite full powered rifle cartridge? Mine is 7mm mauser.

Sean S.

Whenever I watch a C&Rsenal video, my roommate always says, “oh the hipster gun show”. Because you’re apparently now the arbitrator of these things, what is the ultimate hipster gun brand? I know CZ is memed as the ultimate hipster gun company, as I’m reminded every range trip. But I think Steyr or maybe even Glock can hold the title given how far you can customize them to express the buyers personal “uniqueness”.

SentientSQLQuery

I remember in one of your videos admonishing Crozier for trying to gnaw on a gun. Have your guinea pigs ever damaged one of your firearms?

Ripberger

what's the plan? midwar years (interesting period with handguns one could say) then onward to the 2nd? followed by cold war (that should at least be easier to find)? caplock wheelguns in between? hope you can move your bikes some.

Guido Schriewer

lewis lmg out of question? 1911 or p08. winchester 94.

Guido Schriewer

I had a 1907 Colt New Service and was surprised at how different the internals were to those of a post 1909 model. The system seemed rather weak and I could never get it to reliably shoot a fully cylinder. Replacement parts for that older model seem impossible to find. I don't recall you discussing this older model during your New Service episode. Do you have any additional information on this old model or knowledge as to why it was changed so drastically when creating the 1909?

Sam Taylor

If countries were limited to one type of weapon, what weapon would you choose for WWI and what would you select in a modern context? Only small arms, artillery, tanks, flying machines (E.g. only Lewis guns, only planes, only French 75 or only Tankgewehrs). In other words, how would a country best be served if all combatants were armed in one way? You can use my name if you would like.

Daniel Vrenna

THIS is the quality content we are all here for!

Kile Mullen

Since you have moved into the inter-war period of firearms, is there any chance of a couple of episodes dealing with the development of the double action compact/pocket automatic pistols like the Walther PP (& PPK), Mauser HSc &/or Sauer 38H?

William Lewis

What are some of the funniest stories or events you've come across during your research?

Halinspark

If you could only eat one type of cheese for the rest of your life, what cheese would it be? This includes as toppings and ingredients like in pizza, tacos, ect.

G3yost

What are your thoughts on the bond arms lever-gun that uses AR15 magazines?

Will Wooten

If you could go back in time and spend, say, a day talking to one person of significance (historical, political, scientific, technological, etc.), ask them questions, grill them on the what, the how, and the why, who would it be?

E_Blaho

Why did Colt revolvers take so long to settle on the "top and bottom" frame of the 1873? Looking back, it seems incredibly obvious, but the manufacturing and materials limits of the 19th century seem like they would demand rather than eventually allow the more robust design of the SAA vs the earlier multi-piece frames. Apologies if you addressed this, but it seemed like a theme that never found a place amidst the individual episodes.

Adam Schindler

You are the new Elbonian Defense Minister who replaces a man that had been run out of the country for being a traitor to his people, but SURPRISE, you're the same man back with a fetching new moustache and glasses, and just as treacherous as ever. The country's leadership, being none the wiser, direct you to replace all existing small arms in service in an attempt to right the wrongs of the past Defense Minister, and to add a layer of security they have decreed that all such weapons must be new designs and be built in glorious Elbonian armories. You have been authorized to hire both a weapons designer and businessman from anywhere in the world to come in and create the new small arms for the glorious Elbonian armed forces, being the crafty and devious defense minister that you are, who would you choose to cause the most damage to the Elbonian cause while still delivering at least something to their armed forces?

Tara Oregon

When trying to do a little research on Finnish Mosins, I ran across a blurb about them being chambered in 7.62x53R rather than 54. I couldn't find a definitive answer on how to tell if a rifle is in that chamber. Could you delve into this a little?

Joseph Olive

Your at the last stand at the Alamo, which rifle/sidearm from WW1 do you take with you?

david jackson

I know y'all are overrun with everything else, but how is the trap thrower wall progressing?

John Thomas

With all the cool and rare guns you’ve been able to come across and shoot, I’ve got a hypothetical. Should you find yourselves eventually doing a series on the development of the MP44, what’re the chances you’d be able to cover both variants of the MKb42 and shoot them?

Christian Hanes

Where does the American myth of the individual rifleman come from?

Jeff King

You have the ability to move through time From the beginning of time up to November 11 1918. You can choose one rifle and one pistol from WWI to bring with you to assassinate the worlds worst people. What would you choose?

Brian Flint

Right now, Reprocussion has exclusively been about early Colt revolvers. I assume you are interested in other reproduction guns for the series, but have you considered doing some kind of long gun Reprocussion episode, and if so which one? I think there could be a really interesting story to tell about some of these guns, like talking about the history of Harper's Ferry and John Brown's raid with a Harper's Ferry reproduction rifle.

The previous owner of my Swedish M96 Mauser kept everything mint except the trigger - they've done some surprisingly high-quality bubba-ing and have turned the nice two-stage trigger into maybe the most sensitive trigger I've ever handled - the lightest touch fires the gun. Putting aside safety and value concerns, from a historical perspective is it more important to keep the original matching trigger despite it's modification, or replace it with a non-matching but functionally correct unit?

Ben

Will you ever be covering some of the very inexpensive 32 rimfire revolvers of the 1800s? Iver Johnson, Hopkins and Allen etc… They are very cool firearms.

Kieran

The studio is on fire - the wall of guns behind you are in danger - what 5 guns do you grab - whats the short story behind each one

Christian Lynn

The magic goateed gun fairy will wish in to your hands one gun in immaculate condition from a population of guns that was rode hard and put away wet. Like guns that would have been surplused from Ethiopia, turkey, Serbia etc after very long service lives. But it will turn into a pumpkin on midnight on the day you are done filming it. What do you wish for?

Primarch359

Would you carry an Ortgies with one in the chamber as a conceal carry piece or is there too much risk of accidental discharge if the handgun is dropped? Does the safety prevent the striker from moving or just the trigger? (Ponder not about cartridge stopping power or other reliability concerns, I am just curious about safety). Many thanks!

How do you compare the workmanship of British rifles such as the Martini-Henry made by Enfield to American rifles such as the Peabody made by the Providence Tool Company? In your opinion are British rifles of superior quality?

Al Stern

Ammo and gun prices be damned, dream edc?

Average

Fun question for both of you. You're given $10,000 a piece to buy a gun. The catch: it must have been manufactured after 1990. What are you each going with?

Harry

In both WWI and WWII we saw occasional use of aircraft MGs converted to infantry use. Were any of them particularly effective and even sought after or were they all just kludges?

Sean Tabor

In the WW1 era, there was (in some quarters of the public) a feeling of resentment about those who designed and produced weapons to kill their fellow man, have you ever grappled with this moral consideration?

EpictetusTheStoic

What are the biggest screw ups you've found in your research for WW1 arms.. Testing, distribution, Corruption, etc...and any consequences that came from them

Powers

Have there been any firearms you didn't want to do or were reluctant to do, but felt obligated to?

Jacob Catcher

Do you have any plans to make an episode about the legendary Borchardt C-93 pistol? Or is the weapon just too rare to get a hold of?

Royeaux

If you were given a million dollars, for yourself or the show, what would you do with it?

mike94551

What firearm have you examined so far that most defied your expectations for it? Either positively or negatively? or If you could design a "perfect" rifle for World War I combat from the parts of other rifles used in the war, what would it be? You can take any part/mechanism/action from any rifle used in the conflict to make this hypothetical ultimate rifle.

jtfrogblast

Do you have any information on specifically which parts were modified for the 08 conversion of they Steyr Hahn to 9x19? Obviously the chamber/barrel, but I have read conflicting sources stating that the extractor and breech face may also have been modified to account for the slight rim thickness differences between 9x19 and 9x23. Has any of your research pointed to which parts were modified/replaced and how/why? There is currently an Austrian company that makes drop-in 9x19 barrels, and I am curious what else might be needed to actually make that conversion.

A.S.

What has been your favorite episode/ project so far and why please elaborate

Lots of Bass

Easy non-research based question this year. What’s each of yours preferred conceal carry setup, and do either of ever carry anything older or unusual on occasion? And feel free to use my “user name”.

nick G

Of all the guns ever designed, what gun project would you have liked to be part of. Does not need to be a successful gun or even one that went into production. BTW it can be any phase of the project, inventing, engineering, design, manufacturing, trials, sales, kicking General William Crozierin the balls for being stupid.......

Mongo

Howdy! I can relate to the frustration you have been experiencing while researching the origins of certain revolver designs, but aside from that, what other firearms-related subjects do you wish people would do research on and cover in books/academic journals?

Justin Baird

Who makes the odd size ammo for the guns that you shoot and are they able to do the rim fire rounds if the gun requires it.

Lowell Wong

Thank you for covering Pre 20th century Weapons. Will the Series go where ever and you cover weapons of less powers,Eg the Owen Gun From Austiralia?

James Mathieson

Not a serious question at all…. If someone is “armed to the teeth,” does that mean they have more firearms than teeth? Bonus: Is there a requirement for minimum number of teeth.

PHILLIP DOUBLE U

Othais and Mae, what would you say has been the Sisyphus’s Boulder of your work? Or What did you both do before working on C&Rsenal?

Thomas Broughton

So what’s the future of ur black power series? Could you envision a Wild West 1850-1900 weapons series?
