“Then, lady, if you wish to help us out, you will need to apply…” The barkeep informed Cammy, who had never been more determined for this challenge.
“Apply? What do you mean? Who do I have to talk to you to apply for this mission?” Cammy, the red-haired bard-ranger woman, didn’t have time to wait for someone else in the village to apply and sign papers, because the only thing she was after was the reward that was promised for getting the land rid of these demons. The reward was gold coins. Lots of them, and Cammy and the others desperately needed that kind of money.
“Breasta—the priestess of the village will have to approve you first. That is all…” the barkeep informed Cammy.
“Breasta, you say? Um… It sounds like I heard that name before, but I can’t remember when or where… Um… Anyway, I might have said that I was going to be on my own for this mission earlier, but this is not exactly going to be the case… Now, before I go find this priestess, how about a beer, huh?” Cammy finally admitted to him, ordering a beer at the same time as she conversed with the barkeep.
“Oh, so you will have some backup?” The old man asked her as she prepared a pint of fresh ale for her, which he handed to her in less time than it took for her to begin to elaborate on the reinforcement she was going to receive for this dangerous mission.
Gulp… Gulp… Gulp…
Before replying to anything, Cammy took the time to drink quite a bit of the ale she had just been handed by the trusty barkeep.
“Ahn! Right! Oh, this ale is good. It’s so good! Right… About the backup…” Cammy began blushing as she had already consumed half of her pint of ale. That young woman was surely thirsty, to say the least. So thirsty that she would have drank the entire thing in one go if she didn’t have to pace herself a bit, enough to keep the conversation going with the barkeep, and then, there were the vile demons that she needed to defeat, so, yeah, there was no rush into getting drunk, at least, not until the mission had been completed.
“Hey, you didn’t order anything for me?” A different woman’s voice was suddenly heard in the tavern. The barkeep and the rest of the men drinking at the tavern were desperately searching for the source of that voice, since it wasn’t clear where it came from. Meanwhile, Cammy wasn’t searching for the source of the voice since she already knew where that invisible woman was…
She was on the ceiling.
It was Cammy who indicated this to them.
The barkeep looked up first, and then the rest of the tavern dwellers rid, as well.
This other woman was walking on the ceiling right above the barkeep’s head.
That woman was a short thief in dark clothes.
She was a halfling.
Her name was…
Kate.
“Sorry, Kate, I didn’t know that you were also thirsty…”
Being a halfling, Kate was a short woman. She was quite a short stack, meaning that she was short and thick. Kate had large breasts, wide hips, and a thick ass. She had cerulean blue eyes and medium-length dark brown hair.
Her body was shrouded in darkness, since all of her clothes were pitch-black.
Kate was able to see her reflection in the same glass that Cammy saw her reflection in.
“Who are you?” The barkeeper asked the thief-looking young woman above his head on the ceiling.
“Never mind me…” Kate replied to the old man.
“Want me to order you an ale?” Cammy asked her without even looking like she was too bothered by the fact that she was on the ceiling.
“No, I don’t want one anymore… When are we going to kill some demons?” Kate’s voice was cold and serious.
“It’s up to you!” Meanwhile, it was completely different for Cammy’s voice, which was a lot warmer and cheerier. It was entirely different.
Cammy finished up her ale and probably drank it much too fast for her good.
If she kept going like this and asked for more beer, she was probably going to get drunk soon.
She knew she had to stop now.
“Oh, about the demons, right…” Cammy had almost forgotten that Kate asked her about the demons. “We have to get approved first, umm, that sounds like a bunch of crap…”
“I said, when are we going to be killing demons?” Kate asked the same question again.
“Soon…”
The bard could tell that the thief was losing her patience.
“So, where is this woman that we need to speak to get the job…” Cammy addressed the barkeeper.
“The priestess? She’s at the shrine. She’s always at the shrine…” The barkeep informed them.
“Right! That kind of makes sense, but I meant where is her shrine? We didn’t see a shrine when we first came to town earlier…” The bard insisted on knowing exactly where they needed to go.
“Her shrine is over the hill on the other side of the village. That might have been why you didn’t see it earlier. Just climb over the hill, and you should see it, however, with that being said… You should probably wait till morning before the priestess is sleeping at this time…” The barkeep cordially explained that this late into the evening was not the time to go see her, perhaps…
“Then, this is where we need to go…” Kate, the thief, didn’t wait another moment before disappearing in the shadows of the tavern, heading for the hill shrine immediately, moving so fast out of the modest establishment that it looked like she teleported, but she didn’t.
However, what was certain was that she vanished.
“I do not think that she heard you…” Cammy admitted.
The bard stood up.
She was on her way out of there, as well.
She dropped a few gold coins on the counter—more than what she needed to pay, and then she went out the door, following Kate.
