It's only missing one word but it makes a lot difference to the story!
Without the word "lately" you would probably think that Ra was always be a loner and a bookworm, but it actually happen just after the death of his father. That's why the teacher thought this is a matter that need to be brought up before anything bad happen to the child's mental health. I hope it make sense.
