Best Friend Problems Chapter 1-2

The Estella Academy cafeteria was abuzz with activity and girls of all years mingled, ate, and freely looked at messages on their phones.

“Oh yes,” Rachel cooed as she put another spoonful of chocolatey goodness in her mouth.

“Are you sure you’re a high school senior Rachel?” Vivian snarkily asked as she nibbled on a sandwich.

“Bite me wonder-goth, don’t mock a girl’s pudding addiction,” Rachel said jokingly as she let out another muffled giggle of happiness.

“Hee, I know the best ways to get Rachel to forgive me for my little games,” Lacey giggled as she played with the cafeteria’s idea of “meatloaf” with her fork.

“Don’t think this gives you a free pass EVERY time to do your stupid pranks Lacey,” Rachel said sternly, blushing slightly with a bit of pudding on her cheek. “Seriously, we’re all 18 now. You got to stop acting like a kid.”

“Aww,” Lacey pouted with exaggerated puffed up cheeks. “But I love pranks, especially all the cute faces and noises you make when I do them.” Rachel’s blush deepened at these comments.

“Yes, well, I’m SO GLAD that my embarrassment brings you so much joy,” Rachel replied indignant. Ever since they were young Lacey and Rachel had done everything together, and admittedly the two enjoyed getting into prank wars with each other. The difference is that at some point Rachel got the memo and grew out of such odd games. Lacey…seemingly kept losing her memo in the mail for five years.

“So, you guys put any thought into that “post-graduation” think piece Mrs. Miller wants us to write?” Vivian said as she continued to enjoy her sandwich.

“Meh, not much to think about,” Rachel said while eating another spoonful of pudding. “Go to college, graduate, wait tables while waiting to find an entry level job in my field that doesn’t require 6 years of prior experience. The usual experience.”

“Oh, you can have SOME fun with it Rachie,” Lacey commented.

“Uh huh, so what’s your paper going to be about?” Rachel asked, mildly annoyed at Lacey using her personal nickname for her.

“Well, I’ll go to college, work under a fashion designer, and eventually get my designs made and shown off by cute models,” she giggled.

“Optimistic, for such a cutthroat profession,” Vivian commented dryly.

“A girl can dream, but I’m not blind to how nasty it can get,” Lacey responded while resting her chin on her right fist.  “I just want to design cute and comfortable clothes that people can feel “right” in you know?”

“At least you have a good outlook on it,” Rachel smiled. While Lacey could come off as a goofball and an airhead, behind her antics was a big heart and a brilliant taste for fashion and design. Thinking on it, she HAS been pestering her lately to model her latest “secret project…”

“Ah, shit!” Rachel cursed under her breath as she let her pudding slip out of her hand while lost in thought, and with a slight “SPLAT!” a good helping of chocolate fell on her skirt.

“Oh no!” Lacey gasped. “Can you get it off?”

“These skirts are really bad with chocolate,” Rachel gritted her teeth as she quickly used her napkin to wipe off the wasted chocolate. “Damn it, it’s still pretty visible.” The school was pretty strict about clean uniforms during class. It was a girl’s responsibility to have spare uniforms, and unfortunately, she had forgotten her spare clothing…

“Come with me,” Lacey said, putting her hand on Lacey’s. “I’ve got a spare skirt in my gym locker. We still got time until lunch is over, so you can change quick and borrow mine.”

“Lacey, thanks for that…” Rachel was lucky to have such an earnest and kind best friend as Lacey…HOWEVER, certain thoughts came into Rachel’s head as she saw the certain “look” in Rachel’s eyes behind the honest kindness behind them.

I’ve known Lacey a long time. She’s not lying about giving me her skirt. Like I said, she has a big heart, but I also know how much of an opportunist she is when the two of them are alone…like they would be in the locker rooms during lunch time.

Assuming lacey’s going to pull something, I might want to decline her offer. While I don’t have a spare skirt, I do have my gym bloomers in my locker. While those damn outdated things would be embarrassing to wear since they were practically cut like panties, it still counted as an “acceptable” part of the uniform if no skirt was available…

Author's Note: Alright, now with this, we have our first decision to vote one! Will Rachel trust Lacey and go to the gym lockers with her? Or will she trust her gut and just go grab her bloomers and change in the bathroom? :P Voting ends on Monday!
