DRAMA ALERT!

Hey Laowinners!

I was driving from Shenzhen the other day, and I received a barrage of very unsettling messages.

There was a public group that had a foreigner in it, and he started freaking out about how he had "secret info" about me, and how I need to get my family out of China immediately. Of course, I get all kinds of ridiculous posts and messages being on social media, but this was alarming since it was coming from an American that lived in the same area as me.

Paranoia set in, and I frantically tried to contact everyone I could that would know him, so I could contact him directly.

I spoke to a few people that said he is a weirdo, but he's pretty smart, so I should hear him out.

I get ahold of him, and he says it's not secure to contact me through WeChat, as the government is watching me, and while I was confused, I was going to try and get ahold of him.

Thoughts of everything raced through my head, and I realized that I had done nothing wrong. However, was it my filming of Conquering Northern China? Was it the fact that I was making YouTube videos, and the government is cracking down? I had no idea what was going on, since I haven't committed crimes, nor talked about anything particularly sensitive.

My heart is pounding, and I am worried about being detained, and my family being taken away from me.

Sure enough, when I drive past my house, there are a ton of cops outside of the gate.

Heart drops.

I call Vivi, and she tells me that no one has shown up at the door, so she doesn't think anything is happening. I park the car away from my house and go through the back door. By the time I get there, the cops are gone, and I get on Facebook to talk to the guy trying to warn me.

Facebook call connects, and I am now talking to the drunkest most unbelievably intoxicated person I have ever talked to. He can barely string a sentence together except for, "you need to get your family out of China, sorry I am an alcoholic"

I almost had a heart attack over a reject that I later found out actually was deported for public intoxication and belligerence. He's been found drunk in malls, passed out in fountains, and blacked out drunk during class. He even tried to randomly fight Prozzie on the street for no reason.

I walked away feeling much better, but pretty angry about how this bastard managed to make me go into a really scary headspace.
Alcoholics are menaces, but I don't envy the addiction, and I can't imagine how bad it is for his wife and new born child.

He has since removed the Facebook video for me that originally posted.

That's... interesting... I guess with the law in China regarding alcohol China's a haven for them. Still, ya feel sorry for his family. Makes me feel a good segment video for you would be trying to figure out whether people in China are more susceptible to alcoholism (by % of population) and see how an alcoholic might act differently between the two countries.

Honestly, I lived in Tianjin from 95-98 and then I visited and PARTIED a shit ton durring 2000-2009, Since you don't appear to be a druggie, I don't think you will ever have a reason to be arrested. You do you, and block out all that noise from the outside. I know what it's like to be a foreigner, but... I was doing drugs, I had reason to be extra cautious, and all of my friends were Taiwanese or American but when we were sober, nah, not a care in the world bro.. You do you.. god bless.
