Listening to the back catalog. Bring the shout outs back!

bunch of dudes at my graduation were middle school style heckling kids who wore masks in line

SF masked as hell, a year plus running and super low covid rates - almost like it helps. 😷 they can pry it off my face! JK no one is getting within 6 feet if I don’t know em

Shivvy

wow thx for this backstory bc i know nothin about her and forgot to google

Everyone in Seattle is still masked up... even when walking their dog outside alone.

I've sometimes felt it was nuts to take COVID so seriously while others are out and about. But not now. We have family and friends in Delhi- there's not a single person we know that hasn't lost someone. It's heart breaking, they say a million will be dead by the summer. I don't think it ever could've gotten that bad in the US but there's no question that staying home and wearing masks helped prevent more deaths. No opinion on if you still need to wear masks post-vaccination in places w/o outbreaks. But don't let those assholes make you question taking it seriously or feel crazy. Talk to someone you know from India- chances are they've spent the past few weeks day and night scrambling to help people get oxygen canisters, hospital beds, money, medicines etc. I feel safe to go out to eat in my own town again now but I don't just because I can't deal with antimasker covidhoaxers right now, and you are right theyve gotten bolder.

another thing is that the wait staff, grocery clerks, etc. you’re interacting with have no idea whether you’ve been vaccinated. in my view, anything to make them even a tiny bit more comfortable is worth it, especially when they’ve been through essential worker hell and have to deal with assholes all day even normally. basically, continuing to wear a mask is pro-worker

Thank you! I got pretty incensed hearing "but why do I have to wear a mask?" Because you can still get it. Because immunocompromised people need others to be safe so they won't fucking die. Wear the damn mask, guys.

Rachel Hollis is (was) the MLM go to motivational speaker, that’s how she had so many followers. Her husband was (is?) a high up Disney exec that she married when she was like 19/20 and lost her virginity to (he was quite a bit older if I remember correctly). They would give marriage advice, including how couples should have sex daily in order to improve their marriages. And then they got a divorce 😂 that’s why the Christian / MLM community doesn’t like her nowadays. As a woman who lives in rural colorado, I would always get recommended her books back in 2019 while getting my hair done etc. I ended up reading “girl wash your face” and talk about toxic positivity.... according to her, if you’re not doing well, it’s on you and your mindset. Nothing more, nothing less.

the vaccines aren't sterilizing. you can still pick up and transmit the virus. so you can still kill someone's grandma or w/e. transmission reduced about 80%. how tf much does it hurt to keep wearing a mask (inside for sure, outside around other people) the other thing is when you mix vaxxed and unvaxxed people you create perfect cocktail for full vaccine escape variants. pfizer & moderna 95% against OG covid, but only 65-80% effective against current wave of variants (UK, Brazil, etc) so that's good news. and way less likely to die overall. one of these variants are going to rip through worse than original covid. exciting stuff vaccines only supposed to be a tool in the epidemiological toolbox so that lockdowns & quarantines can then be used to stomp it out. they're not supposed to be your whole damn pandemic response plan lmao. excited for this to become endemic

At 46:38, "there is something in this country that, you know, says suffering should be rewarded" - that is kind of baked in to Christian ideology. Suffer this life, get reward in heaven.

Cable Guy was Carrey's last good movie. Was a great social critique. "I learned the facts of life... from watching the facts of life!" I think it does have some small anti-capitalist commentary. Not full bore, but a little bit about how work and the weird jobs we have to do can be dehumanizing.

My dad said to me talking about covid "we never slowed down going out to eat. If I'm gonna die it's gonna be with a full belly!"
