In sum, tax credits are a way to say they gave more money than they actually did, and the only money they gave away goes to the people who are better-off.

yeah “middle class” is people with some vested interest in the current order whether that’s owning a home or a lot of stocks. i think it’s a popular football exactly because it’s such a vague term that anyone can identify with, and specifically tied to one’s individual interest in the system as it exists so it’s a safeguard against solidarity. a more sophisticated version of “with those union dues you could buy an xbox”

I think the dems are so obsessed with the "middle class" is its not a true class in the marxist sense. It includes working class people but also petty bourgeois. It is not based on your relation to the means of production but simply how comfortable your life is. They love it because it flattens and confuses real class analysis and erases the working class. But they dont really love the middle class its all rhetoric. They do love those petty bourge business owners though, they are aftee all the class basis of fascism.
