December Development Update
Added 2023-12-06 16:03:11 +0000 UTCHowdy everyone, I hope you're all having a wonderful holiday season! Unfortunately, November was a fairly slow month for development and I've decided to delay the mob-fight demo I was planning to have out by the end of the year. However, there are a handful of new updates I'm very excited to share with y'all!
The first of which is something I've been extremely excited to start working on basically since day 1 of this project: Parrying!!

In Blood Crisis, you can press the Square button (Playstation Controls) to perform a Counter, which, if successful, will result in a Parry.
At the moment, Countering basically works the same way as the "Guard" ability from Kingdom Hearts 2, albeit with a few major differences.
Much like KH2, a successful counter/parry can be canceled into a combo, but unlike KH2, you're also able to cancel it into another counter, meaning that enemies with fast, multi-hit attacks can be rapidly parried.
Possibly biggest difference is that Counter can be used in the middle of your combo, and does not add to your combo counter.
This means that if your max combo length is 3 hits, you can perform two normal attacks, land multiple counters, and then resume your combo with a finisher.
At the moment, parries are only semi-functional. While the Counter ability is fully implemented, parries as a result of colliding attacks is still a work-in-progress.
Additionally, as a way to test out parries, I've been spending time on the last few streams creating and animating the Sentinel, the enemy that I'm going to be using to stress-test test parrying, to make sure what I've coded holds up under the pressure of an extremely fast and hard-hitting enemy.

Lastly, and I know this isn't the first time I've said this.....I'm working on devlog #2, and it should hopefully be out before the end of the year. The script is finished, I've done a few line reads and I'm actually very happy with how it's shaping up, unlike the last two scripts (hey, third time's the charm, right?). I decided to split what I had from my original DL2 script into multiple smaller videos, so hopefully I can start putting more content, maybe even non-devlog videos out on Youtube.
As always, thank you all so much for your support and excitement! Every day I draw nearer and nearer to having something for you to play and that keeps me unbelievably pumped. Have a wonderful rest of your December, everyone!
