Inhabitants who couldn't escape were exterminated except for several highly valued individuals, such as the High Priestess of the War Goddess. She offered valiant resistance in the temple, but was overcome by numbers and taken alive. The victors have different plans for her. Their own demonic gods are always eager for such offerings. (Made her redhead in the end.)
