I like this episode. It's my favourite of season 9 -- which isn't saying much, really. It's a good story, but it's just *not The X-Files* without the Mulder/Scully partnership. But at least I liked it and it didn't make me either sad or MAD (this season had the first X-Files episodes that actually made me ANG-UH-RY).

2024-10-04 23:42:07 +0000 UTCI always thought of this episode as one of the seasons best. It's in fact one of my alltime favorites. I like the tone. Reminds me very much of "One Breath", season 2, when Scully was in the coma, and Mulder was emotionally going through all of this. The opening scene with Doggett and Reyes was really cute. And there were quite a few people shipping them back then. The episode was something different again, I'm always in when The X Files breaks the formula again. No, there was no real X Files case. But there was something Supernatural, and that's enough for me, to label it X Files. 😉 And I also gotta say, that I enjoy this season more than season 7, even though it's so different. Even though it's mostly Doggett and Reyes, and kinda feels like a spinoff. But the tone here is much more up my alley. Some people would buy anything, as long as it's Mulder and Scully. And I get that, that's okay. I was never that person. Back then in 2002 I was ready to follow the show in any direction, as long as they keep it interesting.

The actress playing Audrey Pauley (interestingly her last name is never mentioned in the episode) was also in season three episode "Oubliette". Also, when you referred to her as "Aubrey", it reminded me of episode "Aubrey" from season two, lol. Anyway, I love this episode and I enjoyed your reaction as usual. In terms of continuity and character development in general, this is indeed a problem with The X-Files in many different ways. Some things are handled very well though, depending on the episode, but it's still an issue. I'm very glad you enjoy this season. I've always felt S9 and S7 are the worst of the original series, with S9 being worse than S7... but thinking about it now, I am leaning more and more towards S7 being less enjoyable than S9, as weird as it sounds. I guess I'll have to think about it more. And S8 is one of my favorites. As for the two revival seasons, I personally do not consider them canon, even though they officially are.
