I don't know if anyone cleared this up for you yet, but Jimmy didn't die here. Not yet. That was clarified by what Cas said to Jimmy before re-posessing him. Cas is back on track with being an obedient angel now. He didn't escape Heaven. He was taken by Heaven and "corrected". Likely by Naomi. Now he's back to being an obedient angel and following orders. Not there to help Dean.

Ah, you mentioned hating Andrew Dabb as a showrunner! I love Dabb era, especially season 14 and 15 (apart from the finale, obviously). Maybe you'll reconsider it when we get there in the rewatch run? This episode is a small masterpiece though (Jeremy Carver is one of early seasons' best writers which tends to get overlooked as he gets discussed more as a showrunner). Jimmy's predicament is terrifying and tragic and the same for Claire and Amelia – it really becomes apparent how horrific angel possession is in this universe (and it's going to be revisited in s14 when Cas tells Nick that what he did to Jimmy is his biggest regret, and in s9 when he starts trying to build a relationship with Claire).

IMO how Chuck "goes method acting as a prophet" can be explained in Galaxy Brain 15.12 - (from Superwiki) Billie: He had no choice but to build Himself into the framework. It's His only weakness. Billie explaining Chuck being apart of the framework of existence, is similar to Chuck telling Sam and Dean that he had written himself into the story in 4.18 The Monster at the End of This Book. He wrote himself as a prophet with an archangel attached to him. Prophets are susceptible to visions (i.e. Kevin Tran) and are subject to being monitored by angels. He has given himself the whole rigmarole of being a prophet and thus when he was a prophet, he didn't act like a god because of being "monitored by angels" rules, imo. When Sam shot him with the Equalizer, a gun which characteristic was "whatever happens to the person you're aiming at also happens to you" (Moriah 14.20), Chuck was also affected. He had just established that was the rule of the gun in this universe. And then he was shot too, which was why he was affected by it. Though not to the extent detrimental to him since he is god after all. As Chuck had written himself into the SPN framework, he subjected himself to the universe's rules, thus becoming a weakened being. And he ultimately got a Death Book just like the rest of them. And because of him participating in these shenanigans, IMO Chuck had somehow transformed himself. In the end, it did seem like Chuck was not all that powerful. Ben Edlund likened him to a demiurge which in gnostic meaning: is a heavenly being, subordinate to the Supreme Being, that is considered to be the controller of the material world and antagonistic to all that is purely spiritual (via Google Dictionary). Ben Edlund on X: "... I will say that I use 'Demiurge' in a loose and playful way to refer to the distinction between Chuck and the actual source point of Creation (again, this is a personal non-canon interpretation)." Via link - https://x.com/ben_edlund/status/1789330882152870119 Ben also said this about Dean in The Winchesters "Dean may be evolving into an impactful, autonomous, technically non-corporeal entity of his own. Angel 2.0" which is why Dean can travel through the multiverse. https://x.com/ben_edlund/status/1789322062940832184

Misha does such a good job I love how different CAS and Jimmy feel. CAS immediately got dragged to heaven because he helped dean in "the monster at the end of the book" against heaven's orders, he said he wasn't supposed to interfer but he did anyway, he told dean about prophets have an archangel tied to them, they dragged him to heaven and Naomi probably reset his programming back to factory settings 😭 torturing him, drilling into his eyes πŸ₯², that's why he told dean he serves heaven he doesn't serve him, he's so cold. Jimmy is not dead yet, when jimmy insisted that cas takes his body instead of his daughter, cas healed him and re possessed him instead of Claire. He doesn't die until this season's finale when Rafael blows him up. Jimmy is one of those special people who can hear CAS's voice, we see him talk to CAS directly and answers yes to being possessed. I would give the win to Jimmy since he heroically sacrifice his body and soul for good to save her by insisting that cas spares her and take him instead. I wonder too what cas was going to tell dean, since he was afraid of being heard by angels in dean's dreams (since only angels can infiltrate dreams) and since there was a fight between him and the angels we have to assume he figured out their real plan and was going to warn dean but they got to him instead and that's why they had to reset him

i think if Dean had let Sam stay dead, Michael would have brought him back alive. Michael was determined to have his fight with Lucifer, which meant Lucifer needed his true vessel. Also angels dont have to make a deal to bring someone back from the dead and presumably Sam was in Heaven (its never specified where he went but i doubt it was Hell at that point), so it would have been nothing for Michael to revive him. However both he and Lilith and Azazel were counting on Dean’s martyrism. Michael more the likely planned on Dean’s sacrifice and what Ruby manipulated Sam into doing afterwards playing into Dean saying yes to him. He probably banked on Dean seeing Sam as ungrateful and entitled, the makings of a monster, because he saw Lucifer as that without caring about the nuance or the circumstances

As soon as I saw the word 'Rapture' I had Soldier Boy singing in my head...

Jimmy is not dead yet. He dies in the finale when Raphael destroys the vessel and Cas.
