2015 revisited: Austin - Marquez in control as Stoner snubbed! (Round 2)

Race two in The Race MotoGP Podcast’s 2015 revisited series is as much about who wasn’t there as who was, as we debate Honda’s shock decision to turn down Casey Stoner’s offer of a comeback at the Grand Prix of the Americas as Dani Pedrosa’s stand-in while Pedrosa recovers from what he hopes will be career-saving surgery.

As you might imagine, even without Stoner and Pedrosa Honda was in pretty good shape: Marc Marquez was already unbeaten at Austin in his first two MotoGP seasons. But his weekend was not exactly straightforward this time.

Simon Patterson, Val Khorounzhiy, Megan White and Matt Beer give their takes on Honda’s Stoner snub, Marquez’s wall-jumping ability, more stirrings of a major Ducati resurgence and a race that sadly typified Scott Redding’s MotoGP career. Plus a cameo from a VERY young Fabio Quartararo.

After this race it was looking a bit like business as usual for MM. I remember it was a bit shocking to hear about Pedrosa possibly ending his career. Stoner getting publicly snubbed by Honda was odd but I guess MM blocking him makes some sense although with hindsight maybe he didnt feel as dominant as he looked. Dovi gets a second, Ducati have arrived, and Rossi third which was ok but it didn't feel like championship challenge at this stage.

What a qualifying lap after running back to the pits. He was riding angry on that lap and riding the bike like a bronco. Sadly the race was just average.
