BBV10s Debrief: Discussing Portugal 1991
Added 2025-01-28 17:31:20 +0000 UTC
It's time to pile through your thoughts and questions on another episode of Bring Back V10s! This time we're looking back on the 1991 Portuguese Grand Prix, and we've had more questions than ever.
So sit back, and watch (or listen!) as BBV10s host Glenn Freeman works his way through a mountain of fascinating follow-ups to our third show from Season 11.
Apparently Piquet announced in January 1992 that he was leaving F1 'to concentrate on business activities' but by that point it was just confirming the inevitable after he left Benetton. Tying into a later episode, he was linked to Ligier and Ferrari at the time.

This was brilliant (sorry for the 2 questions!).
If you're happy to make these debriefs lengthy, I'm more than happy to listen to them. π

I agree that 1992 war Berger's best season at McLaren. He looked more at ease with his role than in previous years and with the pressure of chasing wins in the best car on the grid lifted from him. He scored the most points (49) in the least competitive McLaren of his stint and ran Senna (who admittedly had switched off demoralized by the car's shortcomings) really close in the standings.

The question about booking the guests was brilliant.
Thanks for the effort on doing these Glenn.

Probably because Balestre wasn't in a 10-year long strop with Mansell π

The amount of time you dedicate to these podcasts, and the questions, is fantastic. I have followed F1 as a fanatic since 1999, but hearing your analysis of events I've only seen in retrospect or sometimes not at all (in the case of many of the 1997 races) has been absolutely brilliant.
Thank you.
Mr. H.

Thanks Glenn as always - an aside to the query about why Mansell wasn't stripped of fastest lap, interestingly Senna had his fastest lap annulled when he was disqualified from the 1989 Japanese GP (ironically handing fastest lap honours to Prost). So not entirely a consistent approach it would seem?

Talking about the collection of champions who competed in this race, itβs 20 world championships between them. Pretty cool
