🏎 F1 EXTRA: Was Mexico the most complete weekend of Sainz's career?

Join Edd Straw and Scott Mitchell-Malm as they pause packing their bags to answer another batch of YOUR questions before hopping on the plane to Brazil.

Included are questions on whether Mexico was Carlos Sainz's most complete F1 race weekend to-date, whether F1 should consider MotoGP-style long lap penalties, and - perhaps controversially - whether Edd needs to amend his driver ranking format!

Thanks, as ever, for all of your questions. Edd and the team will be tackling more on this week's longer mid-week episode.

I personally like the ranking compared to ratings. One of the issues with ratings is that it allows partisan fans to complain by comparing the ratings from different races ("Lewis got 8.3 for this performance, while Lando got 8.8 for a similar performance in Spain. Outrageous!") A ranking is more purely contained to that single weekend.

The driver rankings are so much fun. Thoroughly enjoy Edd's digging into the granular detail, as much as is possible, to attempt to differentiate between ~5-15th each weekend.

Thinking aloud, and looking at the comments, it would seem reasonable if we were to do a ranking of the drivers who didn't do a complete season that they have to be ranked on a 'pro-rata' basis. Colapinto, for example, has had the opportunity to be consistent whereas Bearman, with two outings and in different cars, had no chance to - but it shouldn't disqualify him from the possibility of being ranked ahead of Colapinto purely on that basis given the parameters. That doesn't mean he would be, simply that it's important to define things in a way that could potentially allow a flexibility of ranking not defined by scale of opportunity. Edd

Edd Straw

YES YES YES to the part-time drivers rankings!

ChildrenOfTheConch

Part time rankings would be fun.

Andrew Ferg

Yes, part-time driver rankings would be interesting. Hard to know who's done best out of Bearman and Colapinto - Bearman's probably had the higher peaks but Colapinto has been consistently excellent
