Senna: Uncut

We have something very special for you: the beginning of a new series we're calling 'The Race Presents...', starting with an uncut interview with Ayrton Senna!

This interview took place the day after the 1990 season-ending Australian Grand Prix. In it, Senna reflects on his second world championship season, touching on a number of memorable topics from that year.

While there's no mention of what happened at Suzuka (which we assume must have been agreed before the interview took place), Senna speaks extensively about other topics, including the controversy that went on during the winter before the 1990 season, when his participation in F1 was genuinely in doubt after the fallout from what happened at Suzuka in 1989.

He also talks about the stress of battling for the 1990 world championship, and reveals the moment in his battle with Alain Prost that he felt confident the crown would be his (and no, it's not just after the lights went out in Japan!).

There's much more in this interview, including his thoughts on the giant-killing performances in 1990 from Jean Alesi's Tyrrell at Phoenix and Ivan Capelli's Leyton House in France, a nice anecdote about spending time with Juan Manuel Fangio after winning in Monaco, which races he thought were his best in 1990, and how he felt about danger in F1.

This video will eventually go up on our YouTube channel, but we wanted to release it first on Patreon, in unedited form. The raw interview has never been released in full, and you get a fascinating insight into how Senna approached conversations like this, watching how he goes from looking distracted whenever there's a delay as he's waiting for the next question to be asked, to immediately switching back on and giving an engaging answer on pretty much any topic that's given to him.
