Ruth: You mean her father had money? Rigsby: No, a shotgun. He said I'd been "tampering" with her (sighs), I'd rather have tampered with a Rugby League Prop-forward.

A similar version of the plot was used in the 1950's radio comedy "Hancock's Half-Hour" when Tony Hancock was left a similar amount by an uncle in his will, with the proviso that he be a married man, with most of the plot being about him trying (and failing miserably) to attract a women to marry - and there was a twist to that plot too.
