We lead this week with a picture of that weird, Mitsuoka-esque Jag being sold by Noel Gallagher. Link below. The second picture is of a classic set of British traffic lights, complete with lamp tubes (there's probably a proper name for them that we don't know about).

A for sales add with lots of car history! Is there such a thing as too much personal history? https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202111259928122

Loved your traffic light talk, yes, I look at the cross lights to anticipate gear engagement (both my cars are manual!). Not so quick to go though as 'reddish light runners' are sadly a thing here in NZ. I used to blog random thoughts that happen while red lit. Not so much now with lockdown, work from home and no commuting! https://rcd.typepad.com/personal/traffic_light_thoughts/

You are correct, though GE bought some of GEC in the mid 2010's

Also if anyone’s interested, here’s the music video showing Noel’s Jag mk2 driven by Matt Smith. https://youtu.be/gn22YuZ-ne0

I do kinda like Mitsuoka cars ngl, I've not listened yet, but I keep seeing a very tidy MCW Metrocab around my end in Trafford, surely they're rarer than the ol' FX4s now!?

The 80s minicab of choice for the clattering diesel enthusiast in Doncaster was the Peugeot 505. Sounded like a steamroller colliding with a warehouse full of bubble wrap.

A diesel Montego Clubman estate netted my late father his best ever speeding ticket on the A47 outside Norwich one night. He was pulled by an unmarked car, the policeman said we had you at 103mph for a section. Calmly my dad answered well I had 115 on the dial officer. That resulted in a trip to Stevenage Crown Court and a fine of £550 plus 9 points on his license. When it was finally replaced in 1996, it was pretty much fit for scrap at 3 years old.

Alan Bennett would make a great rally co-driver.

Could be wrong I don't think the British company GEC (of TV-making fame) is the same company as GE (of jet engine and microwaves for fat Americans fame).

Daniel Smith

I don't suppose you've seen the Roger Moore Bond film where he drives a Mitsuoka? "A Viewt to a Kill."

Brendan McAleer

That lazy advert doesn’t even say which engine the Jag has. Could be a 2.4, could be a 3.8 or even a 4.2 but I suppose I could maybe Google it myself.

The Capri slats are to prevent read-through on consecutive sets of lights. There are some in Brighton and on the A27 by Shoreham Airport. Stops people starting on the wrong lights... https://goo.gl/maps/32mJopGhuERZANyr5 https://goo.gl/maps/nNALwDbbceyhM3au7

The sharde are called visors at least in the US the ones pictured are tunnel visors the ones that are flared are called cap visors

Ahh the Shotmaster episode, a ruddy faced Ken Bruce at every turn :)

Nigel Hancock

Always like to look at the show notes before listening to wonder how the hell the subjects will come up in conversation. Brilliant to see the resurgence of Shotmaster, probably my favourite S&S video (along with Harry's Garage on Acid)

Peter Norrish

Worth the like just for the Shotmaster link. This and the clackerbag episode are the two best Smith and Sniff podcasts. edit: (Not listened to this week’s episode yet, so there may be a third joining those two)
