Podcast 79 - Imp, Mini and a pipe of Polos
Added 2021-10-17 18:01:01 +0000 UTCJonny's got the lurgy and Richard has been told off by a dentist.
Also in this episode, struggling to recall Kim Basinger's music career, buying out of date sweets from Jeff Bezos's lock-up, going nuts with one of those suitcase cellophane machines, the pros and cons of space exploration, and whatever happened to Tasmin Archer?
Plus, wanting a Hillman Imp over a Mini, going on a long trip in a Porsche Taycan, baristas racing high speed car chargers, EVs sounding like the choir of the dead, and everyone knew someone at college who had a didgeridoo.
This episode also features two remarkable stories from listeners, one about a scary Kiwi car selling experience and one about trying to wee into a bottle at the wheel of a fast-moving Lotus.

Splendid podcast chaps, earned me some strange looks as I was walking around town laughing like a drain. Extra points for the Viz Profanisaurus reference of Shrodinger's Twat

2021-10-20 07:35:16 +0000 UTCI had a very high mileage RSP Mini Cooper in the late 90s and a woman I knew bought a BRAND NEW Mini Cooper (with the massive arches and all that shite) around the same time. They both dieseled hilariously. I showed her how to stall her three hundred mile car and suggested she should take it back to the dealer. She said it was already booked in for rust remediation. There was no paint on the inner wings, the underside of the parcel shelf and most of the inside of the boot. Mine was less than ten years old and at risk of breaking in half if both doors were opened at the same time. She hoped hers was going to age and appreciate like a single malt.

2021-10-18 13:54:23 +0000 UTCHaha no it wasn't meant to be a hob.. something weird there. Should work now. It's a link to someone in a Mitsi Galant taking exception to a Model X overtaking him, it ends with a very damaged Model X and all caught on film. Made the news here in New Zealand absolutely crazy.

2021-10-18 10:29:06 +0000 UTCHi pal, the link shows a video of a Miele Electric Hob. I'm guessing that's not intended?

2021-10-18 10:17:50 +0000 UTCI’ve used that rapid charger and Johnny’s right, by the time my wife had gone in to get coffees and come back out it had put enough in to get home.

2021-10-18 08:18:25 +0000 UTCGuys guys guys just need to clarify one thing based on a comment Richard made a while back and since coffee has come up again...the Flat White is from Wellington NZ... not aussie... like the Americans Aussies wouldn't know coffee if it hit them in the head 😂 anyway hoping 'The Gravel' and family has a speedy recovery! P.S on the subject of gang members, New Zealand, Mitsibishi Galants and crazy car stories in Auckland this makes for a scary/ entertaining watch.. https://youtu.be/Xd_pNVy_Mss Moral of the story, don't try to road rage around Teslas..

2021-10-18 01:28:34 +0000 UTCI've not sold many cars so the only vaugely interesting transaction I had in that way was selling a car (a Sunbeam Rapier Series 3A) to a young chap who was registered blind and was therefore unable to drive.

2021-10-17 21:07:54 +0000 UTCFun Imp fact for Richard. The record at Prescott hillclimb for the fastest accelerating sub 1000cc car is held by an Imp engined mini, with a Mardave tuned motor. It pulled more than 1g off the start line. It was driven by John Meredith, my uncle. Keeping with the family tradition, my first car was a Sunbeam Stiletto, great first car. I rolled it eventually…

2021-10-17 20:35:04 +0000 UTCWishing a speedy recovery, nothing worse than feeling under the weather. Speaking of questionable car sales, while not as bad, I have certainly had a curious one. After browsing Autotrader and decided I wanted a ZT, I found one I wanted down in Englandshire. So me and my friend jumped in my grans poverty spec 09 Clio and made the journey down to see it. We found the place selling it, a run down garage behind a large lockup full to the brim with toilet rolls (probably Bazos). Did the test drive, all seemed well and agreed to come down and pick it up after the fella MOT’d it. The day came, we got the train down and found the questionable toilet roll warehouse and went in to finish the deal. The man invited us into a strange windowless office with a few chairs and went out of the room after I handed over the monies. The door locked. I vaguely remember thinking I don’t want to die behind a toilet roll warehouse and the time went on without the man returning. On another note the top 10 at 10 was on and it was playing Tears for Fears. There was relief as the man returned and we got to return up the road in a ZT with a questionable smell inside. He had clearly tried his best to get rid through various amounts of cleaning but the smell remained, and the occasional pube was found. It was a strange day.

2021-10-17 19:56:11 +0000 UTCWhenever anyone mentions Sleeping Satellite, I can't help but think of Thievery Corporation's Shaolin Satellite, which I think is an infinitely better song, so I can't remember how Sleeping Satellite sounds. I'm not sure if that's a blessing or a curse

2021-10-17 19:51:37 +0000 UTCPart-way through listening and the Imp facts are true facts. I will own one one day, along with an early mk2 Corvair, which is what the Imp would probably have been restyled to look like, if it wasn't busy bankrupting the Rootes Group instead....

2021-10-17 19:48:26 +0000 UTCThe BP Chargemaster chargers around here (Leicestershire) are awful from my experience, if they aren't out of order or telling you to insert a card into the contactless card reader that has no slot, they're giving you pitiful charging speeds but you're paying a fortune for it. One of the reasons my Model 3 is going. That doesn't have a noise and while that's nice, it a shame that we can't play whatever we want like they can in the US

2021-10-17 19:25:40 +0000 UTCJonny sounded a bit better as the episode went on, hopefully he and the family are better soon! Great stories from Martin and Alan. both had me laughing.

2021-10-17 19:19:13 +0000 UTCWe used to get Polo Fruits in our in-flight rations at RAF Lyneham. Someone made 'polo wine' once, having collected dozens of packets over a few months. They were very, very, sick once the fermented mess was drunk.

2021-10-17 18:29:42 +0000 UTCDeiseling cough. Sorry, that's funny. Poor Jonny. Good vibes man, probably in a Noel Edmonds sort of way. Really, I'm sure no-one would've minded if you couldn't be arsed this week, but thank you anyway. You both sound as shit as my family did last week.

2021-10-17 18:20:52 +0000 UTCExcellent. Thanks for clearing up that detail (and for the story). Richard
