Podcast 50 - Du Sporrrrrrrrrrgh
Added 2021-04-04 18:01:01 +0000 UTCJonny has been driving the Peugeot 508 Sport Engineering while Richard has been having gin-fuelled thoughts about the GR Yaris.
Also in this episode, conversational ticks, reading car manuals, the anti-corrosion warranty demands of early ‘00s Mercs, Porsche 964 purism, and what’s the point of the Cupra Formentor?
Plus, Martin Brundle’s superleggera necklace, a confusion at the Singer factory, tricking a horrible grandma with a seatbelt, and thoughts on the Voltswagen debacle.

Language is fascinating. For example, how removing one word from a sentence can completely change the context: "A lot of (car) perverts are attracted to the capabilities of the box, not the actual aesthetics of the box"... Great episode! I listened to most of this one through headphones while walking in public, and ended up having to turn it off because I found it impossible not to laugh loudly and inevitably end up looking slightly crazy!

2021-04-09 17:06:46 +0000 UTCAt the end of the day it all started with feetball pundits. Although a recent interview with Yuki Tsunoda contained, for sure, almost every racing driver cliché from the last three decades.

2021-04-07 09:22:52 +0000 UTCJonny’s unrestrained laughter is James May level. I hear it and then can’t help laughing along......on that side of things.

2021-04-06 13:34:50 +0000 UTCOne of your funniest podcasts yet! It really drives me nuts when management types say, "going forward". Is this just a thing in the US?

2021-04-05 23:05:38 +0000 UTCA close relative adds "...and that sort of thing" to almost every sentence they utter. If I forget to tune it out it drives me up the wall.

2021-04-05 22:28:42 +0000 UTCI used to work with someone who said "if you catch my drift?" at the end of almost every sentence, made all the more annoying because (of course) they were the person in the office who required a detailed explanation for almost everything anyone ever said, where you'd struggle to think how to explain such a basic thing without sounding condescending. They genuinely responded to "hi" with "what do you mean by that?" once, I hope they just misheard me. They also once said "oh well, these things happen in threes" in what seemed like a sincere offer of condolences when I mentioned an elderly relative of mine had passed away; this comment was prompted by two famous people having died that same weekend. It did make me smile though, so fair enough? Typing this out, I'm now starting to think they might have been a really good troll tbh.

2021-04-05 12:31:58 +0000 UTCLast night, during the pub quiz, I noticed Jonny say "honestly" and "I'm not going to lie" several times. Does that mean he's dishonest the rest of the time? It makes me wonder if I should have trust issues with him, d'ya know what I mean?

2021-04-05 10:46:42 +0000 UTCI listened to this last night whilst reasonably pissed, I relistened this morning with virtually no recollection. It's like two episodes for the price of one.
