Podcast 39 - James May spilt tea in my car

Richard remembers the time TV's James May had a travel tea disaster in his Land Rover. Also in this episode, Jonny's barnfind laptop, memories of Feu Orange air freshener, horrors of rot-era Mercs, a weirdly low mileage Ka, comedy tax dodge cars and the story of the sour-faced old woman and the abandoned Honda Jazz. Also in this show, Richard has some idiotic ideas for his new family car and Jonny reads a list of finches.

If you download the Patreon app you can play this ep on your phone like you would from any other podcast player. At least you can on the iOS version. Not sure about the Android one.

Growing up we'd often travel down to visit my gran in Dunoon and along the way there was also a 'car-slash-bag' lady who lived in her car much like Anne Naysmith. What was odd was that she lived in it opposite a nice victorian-era home that she owned, but apparently elected to forego in place of layby life. I'm also quite certain she started with a pretty spacious rover estate car but eventually ended up in red vauxhall hatchback. Downsizing in her old age, I guess. Fond memories of racing past her house with our faces pressed up against the windows of my parents fiat brava desperately trying to catch sight of the car lady.

I have to admit, Rich did wind me up with his thoughts on his new family car. More than I'd like to admit.

A family car option for Richard could be a seat Leon cupra estate or a Toyota caldina. Loved the podcast but disappointed with Jonnys pronunciation of Ford when mentioning the focus estate

And as for Man Smell. I have Views. A key basenote would have to be Original Swarfega. A dash of Castrol Hypoid behind the ears, and top notes of unleaded, Dot 4 and a little running rich exhaust. Hot engine oil would be good too.

Hmmm, ideal car for the Porter family has to be an early 2000s Subaru Forester. You could even go fancy and get a JDM STi...

Just ordered Steel Flies and How To Be A Motoring Journalist by Roy Lanchester. I’ve always thought that George Bishop must have been your primary inspiration for Roy, Richard. Am I right?

I keep looking at 4.0 and 4.6 P38 Range rovers sub 3k to me they still look mega but damn I know it would cripple me financially

I was thinking a supercharged XJR... but then again, not enough room for the pooch. 740/940 Turbo estate?
