Luckily, in these cases, I am a renter! So I unplugged it and will give it one more shot this weekend and then call the landlord.

Poor Scoots. Appliances troubles are no fun... unless the sound is lulling, soothing, creaky and dulcet. In my experience it is usually the direct drive coupler or the agitator dogs.
