CAS HINTS & TIPS
Added 2023-03-02 15:26:26 +0000 UTCI have had various questions over time about different things such as why I do not include meshes anymore and why things are locked in CAS. So I decided to give you some explanations and tips for dealing with these.
1. Hiding Meshes
It is not the right thing to include meshes without permission or unless the meshes are no longer available. I only include meshes for testers to save time but these are only for HQ items that require a different mesh to make them non-HQ. Otherwise, I will always give you a link to meshes needed.
I know that sometimes there are a huge number of swatches on the mesh versions compared to my 10-12 swatches and it is often confusing having 2 versions in your game.
TIP: If you have sims4studio you can go to the S4S files and open the mods folder. If you place the mesh in that file you will not need to add it to the game and my recolour will still show up and you only have my version in the game. If you want both versions then just go ahead and put it in you sims 4 mods folder instead.
2. HQ Recolours
HQ stands for High Quality and there is a mod out there that that turns regular package files into HQ files. If you have a really good computer the mod will make any HQ item into a better quality. If like me, your computer can not handle such high impact mods then anything that is HQ will just show up as normal. However, HQ packages are much bigger files so I prefer not to make HQ files myself but many of the shoes I recolour are HQ. So if you have the mod then items will be better quality, but you will not see any difference if you do not have the mod. My thumbnails show what you will get if you do not have the mod so you will always know the quality of the items I make.
TIP: Again, if you have high gig HQ package files that are needed for the mesh then you can hide these in sims4studio as discussed above.
3. Locked CAS items.
Some items are locked in CAS because they get unlocked as career items when your sim gets promoted, or because they require some skill level to unlock such as knitting skill. I still recolour these items and usually give you the unlock code if you do not have them unlocked already. So if they are locked you will be able to unlock them in CAS regardless of skill or career level. These cheats will be explained below.
4. CAS cheats
There are many cheats in sims 4 to make your playing experience better, from money cheats to unlocking cas items. I usally go to Carl's Guide for any cheats and I have listed some CAS cheats here. To enter cheats you need to open the cheat bar with SHIFT+CTRL+C
4a. Free Edit Mode
Usually, once a sim is made you cannot change any parts of their body or face when you go into CAS in game. However, if EA give you a terrible sim in world that you hate, or you justy want to update your current sim, you can change that sim including redressing, body shaping etc. by opening the cheat bar in the game world and entering this code: cas.fulleditmode
When your sim interacts with a mirror or dresser, or by holding 'shift' and clicking a sim, you can now select 'change sim' which will take you to CAS with the ability to edit everything.
4b. Unlock CAS items
You can unlock any clothing item from your CAS screen, by pack - so BG is Base Game, ep01 is Get to Work etc. by opening the cheat bar and entering this code: cas.unlockbytag EP01 (or other pack number).
4c. Non-cheat way to unlcok CAS
If you are a vanilla player, do not use cheats or are not confident enough to try it, there is a way to unlock CAS via the Gallery. Go to the Gallery and search for 'CAS unlock' and you will get options to add families that have items unlocked giving you full access to the locked items.
