Siren Lineage Recruiter (Alpha 0.1)

While merfolk populate many seas and sizable freshwater bodies of water across the realm, they are far from the only water-breathing species with their own societies and civilizations.  Though they have far fewer numbers than merfolk, Sirens are a beautiful people that primarily populate tropical coves and regions of the ocean with a warmer climate. While they may look human from their torso upwards, from the waist down, the body of sirens are akin to that of tropical fish, with a siren's hair often appearing in a similar shade to their scales.

While many land-dwelling races may confuse a merfolk with a siren or vice versa, there are several notable differences between the two biologically. Firstly, while Merfolk are most comfortable in the water while capable of surviving on land, Sirens are unable to survive without water, and will suffocate if taken out of the water for more than a few hours. Secondly, due to an ancient curse laid upon them by a vindictive demon, Sirens are incapable of reproducing by traditional means and are exclusively female. In order for a new Siren to be created, a Siren must undergo the Rite of the Recruiter. Once a Siren has performed this rite, their kisses are imbued with a heavy concentration of their people's curse, transforming a kissed humanoid into a Siren of the same lineage. Though this curse is most often seen as detrimental, it has bestowed the Siren peoples with innate charming capabilities, something they are widely known (and sometimes feared) for. Through the use of these charming-based abilities, it is common for Sirens to charm and control aquatic creatures ranging from mundane fish to sizable sea-monsters they may travel with for protection.

Due to the somewhat low population of Sirens, political power within their societies is most often held by the Matriarchs of the largest lineages, providing additional incentive for Sirens to attempt to create more of their kin in order to provide their lineage with additional influence. Upon converting another creature into a Siren, the Recruiter will do everything they can to make the new Siren feel welcome within her lineage, treating her as a sister.

Though the societies of Sirens do what they can to remain diplomatic with other aquatic peoples, even those who have not undergone the Rite of the Recruiter are often scrutinized and stigmatized by those of other aquatic races such as Merfolk when traveling.

While the vast majority of Siren lineage vie for power, regularly trying to recruit others, the small yet storied Lachenian lineage of sirens works tirelessly, researching ancient magics and sometimes even working with adventurers in attempts to uncover secrets to reverse the curse of the Siren.

Siren Casting: The Siren Lineage Recruiter knows three spells from the Elementalist (Water or Ice) spell list with a combined MP cost of 22 or less.

Siren's Song: As a two-handed action, the Siren can attempt to charm those around it with its magically enchanting song. Each creature within five spaces of the Siren that can both hear and see it must roll 1d6, adding their resolve. If the total result is 10 or less, that target becomes charmed for the next minute (or until it takes damage). A non-humanoid water-breathing creature subtracts -5 from this roll. While charmed this way, the creature can still make actions, but it cannot target the Siren with attacks or harmful effects and it must use its movement to move as close to the siren as possible. A Siren can telepathically communicate with a creature it has charmed this way. At the beginning of a charmed creature's turn, they may repeat this resolve roll. If a creature passes this resolve roll, they are immune to the effects of this recruiter's Siren's Song ability for the next hour.

Kiss Of Recruitment: As a two-handed, the Siren Lineage Recruiter can attempt to kiss a creature on an adjacent space on the lips. It makes an attack with a 1d4 accuracy dice. This attack automatically hits a creature the Recruiter has charmed. Upon being kissed, a target becomes female if they aren't already and their race becomes Siren. This transformation can be undone by a ritual of purification performed by a creature that has been a Siren for at least one year.
