Charge Up Front
Added 2018-06-15 10:14:21 +0000 UTCFinally, after almost a year of waiting, Patreon decided to give me access to their Charge Up Front feature. I have enabled this for Long Live the Princess. What does this mean for you, my patrons? Read on to find out.
New patrons: You will be charged your full pledge amount the moment you pledge. After that, you will be charged the 1st of every month. The downside to this is that people who join late in the month get charged twice in relatively quick succession. If this happens to you, send me a message, and I'll sort you out. I don't want to fleece the people who so generously donate to me. :)
Existing patrons: You shouldn't notice any difference from before. You will continue to get charged the 1st of every month, as always. Please note that if you increase the size of your pledge, you will be immediately charged for the difference between your old and your new pledge. If you reduce the size of your pledge, you will still have access to the rewards from your previous pledge until the end of the month.
Why make this change?
Every developer who uses Patreon to fund development of their games runs into people who pledge, download their rewards, then unpledge. Basically, they take the game I've worked so hard to make and download it for free, never paying me a cent. Hundreds of dollars of pledges are made every month in this way. It's not fair towards the vast majority of you, those who genuinely want to support what I do. That's why Charge Up Front is needed. It makes it impossible for people to just run off with the rewards without paying.
Basically, I do this to make things fair for you guys. It's not right that people who have no intention of supporting me get the same stuff that you do.
Please remember that I don't want this to create problems for my patrons. If you encounter difficulties, such as by being pledged twice in a row, let me know, and I'll help you out. For regular patrons, everything should keep working the way you're used to, and if it doesn't, I'll make damn sure that whatever trouble you run into gets resolved as painlessly as possible.
Thanks for sticking around, my friends. Here's to the continued success of Long Live the Princess!
Update: I have now unblocked everyone who I previously blocked for fake pledges. If you were blocked for this reason, know that you are now welcome to come back if you so wish. You are forgiven. :)

I have no idea what could be wrong, but it's most likely something to do with your browser. Try clearing your browser's cache, and make sure you aren't blocking popups since all the links on my page should open in a new tab.
2019-10-12 07:42:06 +0000 UTCSorry, I was a bit frustrated when I wrote that and wasn't clear - my apologies. When I click on your image (on my 'Home' where I follow you), it takes me straight to the 'pledge' page - which brings me here. When I search and click on one of those links, it brings me to the pledge page... when I click on one of your posts - same; straight to the pledge page. None of the options I am used to taking me to your front page lead there anymore - while the number of clicks varies from type of attempt to another, I still end up on the pledge page and from there to here (since I can actually send you a message/comment this way). Even manually typing in the link to your main page (listed in the game) is redirected to your pledge page and not your main page. I don't know what happened - this doesn't happen with any of the other creators I follow and did not used to happen with your page.

2019-10-11 21:53:05 +0000 UTC"All links" is kind of an exaggeration since only *one* link leads here. You get to the game using the links on the front page, the links that you'll see if you click "Show more". I don't really understand how it could be possible to miss this.
2019-10-05 07:57:07 +0000 UTCQuestion (and not meaning to sound rude or negative): Seemingly all links lead (eventually) to this post unless you are a $5+ patron - but never to the game or your main page. How are the $1 patrons and public supposed to get to the public release, because I am certainly missing it... and I totally admit it might just be me being dense (lotta stress lately). Previously I could get to your page and the download links to the public version (that was a while back admittedly - I prefer to wait versions in games I really like so there is more to play through before hitting the new 'end).

2018-06-16 14:04:43 +0000 UTCPeople can pirate the game easily anyway, so I don't know if this really changes that much. The biggest difference is that at least I don't have to receive emails every time someone wants to do so. Peace of mind.
2018-06-16 12:05:36 +0000 UTCit also prevents the creator from getting robbed of content and money. a great example of this is night city high before the pay up front model was even invented his game superpower had a huge problem with people just steeling the game and giving nothing back. what made it even worse was the fact that his game is huge and he steams everything so you know precisely how long it took him to do a release. it got to a point where to access the game that even to today you have to get a password from him to access it. a creator should not have to do that to make a living.
2018-06-16 12:02:33 +0000 UTCThat's a good point. I hadn't even considered that possibility.
2018-06-16 07:48:15 +0000 UTCPersonally I prefer this payment method. I'm not a big fan of doing monthly pledges so this allows me to pay for the current version to support the creator with out having to wait for the next month to roll around for payment to be charged. I'm glad you now have this setup mate.
2018-06-16 00:13:54 +0000 UTCGood change. I've joined many projects that have 'charge up front' and honestly it never really bothered me, since that first month you're getting access to a ton of content that basically everyone else paid for. It definitely doesn't feel like a rip-off. I suppose a few guys might think "eh, I'll wait for his next release" and then forget, but I doubt that will be a significant chunk of revenue.
