0.6 Status Update #31

This week we spent a lot of time working with Eve. Including her special render, which we usually don't mention in the status updates outside of the occasional link in other news. The specials are always a little fun project to work on at the end of the month alongside the normal game renders. Something different. Not entirely canon either, but they could be—especially after the events of SH.
After the Eve scene is done there's only one scene left until we can finally wrap up the render content for this update. Plus any fixes Robison digs up while playtesting, like the mole he is.
Audio
Robison finished the audio setup screen this week. It features a couple of sliders and default buttons to set up your volumes in the beginning of the game. This will be stored in the persistent data so you only need to do it once, and those who continue their saves will be unaffected. It's mostly for new players.
We also found a random bug in CH05 where the volume of a sound effect was about 10x louder than it was supposed to be, which made for a nice little jump scare. It was pretty easy to miss and slipped through testing several times. In case you're curious, you can find it in the Kate scene after you shower, as long as you've been good to Eve too.
Progress bars
We had a very friendly fan this week asking about the progress numbers and why they move so slowly, and his conclusion seemed to be that we're evil incarnate. Or something close to it. But in case you're also wondering, the answer is that they're our shitty estimations. And you shouldn't make your own estimations based on our shitty estimations. Even we don't know exactly when the updates will be done, but 100% means done. Not sooner than that.
It's like the previous update and its glorious swan header that filled in with color slowly over time. Really, really slowly towards the end. I'm sure someone cringes at the memory of those last percentages, like we do... It just seems like the last 20% or so always take the longest.
Maybe we just suck at estimating, which makes it hard for you to interpret our progress. That's our bad. We're not sure how to remedy that for the next development cycle... No progress bars? More progress bars?! An overall percentage? Go back to the old lists...?

2024-06-01 10:41:25 +0000 UTCI think you are absolutely right, it is better for the progress bars to go slower at the beginning, since that is when people know that a new update is going to take months and they are more willing to wait, when the update is close people get excited. becomes more impatient, that's why you have the first complaints at the end and not at the beginning, the summer sun proposal seems very valid to me and I agree with it.

2024-06-01 03:00:24 +0000 UTCThe Progress bars are great! I really like them. Not sure why anyone has a problem with the bars. Sounds like they don't know what they're talking about. I like Mr. Swanley but the current Progress Bars are a LOT better then the slowly filling in pictures. The only change I would make if I was in charge of filling in the Bars is: For at least the first 3 to 4 months of Chapter development I'd always fill in only Half to Two Thirds of what I thought I did that week. If you thought you did 10% of something, put in 5% or 6%. If you thought you did 6%, put in 3% or 4%. Then once you're getting close to the last 2 months you have a lot of room to show you're doing a lot of work for when all the little things crop up that you didn't anticipate would need to be done when you started. Please keep the progress bars, they are SOOOO much better then everything else both here and for other games! I'm going to split my post up this time, it's so long already. hah

Because if not, I would prefer they be updated at some point in the development cycle. I like seeing the progress visualized, but not as much if the numbers feel meaningless and don't correspond to anything.

2024-05-31 23:44:53 +0000 UTCNice on the update. Lol, having a visual of the progression is nice, but I don't worry about progression anymore. I mellowed out throughout the years of supporting. I know games will take time and that it'll be ready when it's ready, and when it's finished, it was worth the wait. I'm just here to support the development, engage in and enjoy Patreon's activities (polls, renders, etc.), and go with the flow. The current setup is nice and simple. I did think the Filled-in Swan was unique.

2024-05-31 23:00:12 +0000 UTCI wouldn't worry too much about people complaining about slow updates. We would all love faster updates, but it is what it is. And if someone doesn't think they are getting their money worth out of their subscription, the "Cancel membership" button is just up there to be used. Just take as much time as you need, you haven't forced anyone to sub to you.

Are you sure that was a bug or Npx just wanted to hear it too *lol* Well, I can really understand why people are impatiently waiting for the next update. We love the game, we love the girls, we just love everything about it. And some people forget themselves in their impatience and make mistakes. As I said, I can understand the impatience, but not the behavior. You are very open and transparent developers and we can see that you are driving your game forward with a lot of enthusiasm and zeal. But you can't do more than work on it. I think the progress bars are great. For me, it doesn't show WHEN the next update will be ready, but HOW FAR along you are. That's all these bars should tell you. I would like them to stay. In any case, thank you for your work and I will wait patiently for the next update. Have a nice weekend.
