0.6 Status Update #29

Hello, everyone!

This week we continued work on animations, SFX and renders. There were some render consistency fixes as well. Last time we got a PM wondering what exactly these render fixes are, so we thought we'd give a quick example. Without going into too much detail, it was a simple fumble this time: Player magically changed his clothes mid-scene and was sporting a completely different shirt. Not exactly game breaking, but a bit immersion breaking, and definitely not intended. Little mistakes like that happen from time to time and fall into the render fix category, along with clothing poke-throughs and such.

We also went over the script for the last scene in 0.6, as well as putting some work into the planning of 0.7. Last time we were at this point in development, we asked you if we should release a shorter update or keep developing a longer one as planned. This time there are no options as we are set on a medium update, but we're still curious about the length of future updates. We'll have this question in our post-release survey too, so be sure to leave your thoughts there when it's out!

To finish off this week's report, we also made some minor visual changes to the game's UI, worked on surveys, added new sound effect assets and fixed some missing props in renders.

Next week we'll be focusing on Eve's scene and the extra art and story surrounding it.

Other news

May's special render poll has ended and Eve is the winner!

Cheers and have a great weekend,

I don't think anything will be ready by this weekend. Moreover, the polishing process hasn't even started yet. Based on the pace of work (the filling speed of the progress bars), guys will need 2 to 6 weeks to finish 0.6 release. Right now, it mostly depends on how quickly they finish the polishing

Now I was able to read the post. Super detailed and super interesting. Thank you for not making Sophie blonde ;) But I would actually be very interested to know how you came up with the idea of doing an AVN in the first place? Have you played any before and just wanted to make one too, maybe just better? Or did you just want to make a game and then decided on Renpy and AVN? How did you come up with the individual characters? Was someone the inspiration for the individual ladies? Why an art camp? Something like that would be great, if it doesn't get too personal.

Lilatentakel

Thank you, I really appreciate that.

Lilatentakel

A devlog about the characters and setting? Sounds like an interesting idea, we might do that at some point. We've done one devlog so far about our beginning but we didn't talk in depth about the characters. You can read it here if you want: https://www.patreon.com/posts/devlog-year-one-78236143 We'll keep your suggestion in mind. ๐Ÿ™‚

I think as long as something is released by this weekend we will all be happy!

Dudical

Exactly, it's important to find a balance. And that's why I can really understand how difficult it is. It would also be nice if it were easier. And unfortunately not every supporter is as patient as I am...but the end product is important to me. And we can all see that you are constantly and intensively working on the game. Another question: I would be very interested to know how you came up with the individual characters and the setting. Maybe you could do a DevLog about it?

Lilatentakel

Yep, it's all about finding that balance again... which is always easier said than done! So many variables that skew the development times, but we'll get rid of one of the bottlenecks again for the next update and see how that works out.

Npx

Same here. The current update proved a little bit troublesome in some design and art aspects, but that won't prevent at least 2 updates this year. Feedback is always crucial of course, so do voice your judgements openly! ๐Ÿ‘

Thanks for the status report. We are slowly approaching the finish line for this update. Looking forward to... The question of 2 major or rather more minor updates is a tricky one. I understand the people who always want new content quickly. You just can't wait to get something new from your favorite game. But then it's always over quickly. Personally, I prefer larger episodes. But in the end, the developer should always decide what's better for them. After all, creating a game is an artistic act and the artist should be satisfied with his work.

Lilatentakel

We want huge updates with high quality and frequently, once every month would be ideal. Ofc it's impossible, but it can't hurt to dream ๐Ÿ˜… If we have to choose, IMO it's better to have 3-4 small-to-medium releases per year rather than 1-2 large ones. This way, you'll still be able to maintain high quality, and we won't have time to forget what happened in the game before and won't get tired of waiting.

AlexP

That is, that is!๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿป

RangerCon

Well, I'd prefer a longer one, eh? We've waited for so long, wouldn't hurt to hang on for more little while, and yet, I do want it nice and sweet, quality and duration come first, don't y'all think?๐Ÿ˜‰

RangerCon

The amount of times Eve was mentioned in the status update makes me happy. Thanks for the status update homies. I hope you two have a rad weekend and enjoy yourselves! Maybe, just maybe, have a cold one. Cheers!

Eroc

I think that no update should take more than 6 months. If it does then the creator just overextended way too much. And I'm ok with shorter updates and shorter waits, and with the opposite too. I just think that if updates go for more than 6 months the whole story pace starts to feel dragged. It took 5 chapters to reach the end of the first day. How many it would take to reach the end of the first week or month? If the answer is years, then at some point it's just going to be way too hard to still be hyped about the game.

rannmiumec

To answer the question about the update times: I would love to see 2 updates per year. I'm not a fan of small updates since I think it slows the progress over time down. However, only one update per year seems a little too little in my eyes. With tasks such as the Android version, possible language support and the Steam release looming in the future, the effort for medium updates will increase. I'm satisfied with the progress and time of Chapter 6 so far, but as I haven't seen the amount of content yet, I can't judge that yet. However, you two have a good weekend and dont forget to relax sometimes after hard work.

TheNative

Lol, yeah... no way was I going to catch that. I'm fine with longer development and update times. I'm not doing anything, not in any rush, just chilling, taking it day by day, and ready to play when the new update comes out. I don't like rushing Devs. I'm just here for encouragement and to support the game's development and the AVN journey ๐Ÿ˜. Nice! Looking forward to everything!

Jonathan Hang

Thanks for the update and I can't wait. :)

The Greggen

Oh we getting close. I am actually hyped
