CH05 Status Update #42

Hello, everyone!

This week we carried on with the edits and render changes we decided on previously. Some dialogue was cut, a few renders removed, and a couple of re-renders added to the queue. There was also some crashing during rendering this week. The source behind these crashes remains to be discovered, but they luckily didn't affect anything except mental stability. Just one of those perks of working with 3D sometimes.

There was a surprising amount of fixes required for the new renders this week. That's something we'll look into in the future as the issues stemmed from the scenes themselves, but for the time being they're easily fixed in the post-processing stage.

Work on animations continued, as well as new renders. We spent some extra time focusing on a few scenes that will likely be the favorites of many in the upcoming update. There are still a couple more improvements we'd like to make on those scenes, but we'll see after we get some impressions from the beta version.

The updated script also meant that we had to rewrite some of the code. A couple of bugs also showed up on Ember after thorough playtesting, but we promptly escorted them out of the game. Ember is essentially done at this point, except for a few missing renders. They are low priority, however.

While editing this week, we were wondering how the players feel about the POV perspective we generally stick to in Summer Heat. We've been more liberal with angles and showing the main character in CH05 because some scenes are very limited by POV.

How do you feel about seeing more of the main character? Is strict POV important to you?

Other news

Earlier this week we posted the special render for August, featuring Eve. This special was a fun one to work on! They're all fun to create of course, since they're a little bit extra and different from our usual game renders. In case you missed out on Eve, you can find her here!

Cheers,

CH05 Status Update #42

I'm so looking forward to the release!!!

Admiral

3rd person perspective and POV need to have a balance because some scenes has more impact when in POV. An example: the scene when Sophie hugs MC because what he thinks about Bree. Brilliant work!

Rovs

Im usually on team 3rd but i think you should stick with what you have been going for. Your AVN is already among my fav even with only the small amount of content available. Your attention for details and use of the 1st person POV make the game very immersive, it honestly feel very natural and you managed to reach a very cool and unique vibe that i never seen in any other avn. Well, my english not good enough for me to explain the entirety of my thoughts on the game so i'm not gonna write a full essay but i just wanted encourage you to not change anything on the game presentation, it's great !

Meabe

But thats the thing, you can make most scenes in 3rd person, since its not limiting your full scene shots and use POV for dialogue, or other scenes where it makes sense. Keeping the MC's face hidden, or adding a black box *wink, wink* has zero benefits from an artistic, or game dev standpoints.

Nebulous Shooter

Are you making a VR game? No. Always POV is an antiquated game design that should have been left in 2017 era of VNs, its so limiting for no good reason from an artistic standpoint and, the 'creative' ways to hide MC's face are cringeworthy. Kissing, Hugging with the DAZ models with their uncanny valley eyes and gaping mouths should be reason enough to not use POV perspective for characters interactions. Don't get me wrong,. POV has its place in dialogue scenes, or as one of many more camera angles in sex scenes. So, if there is a vote, 3rd person MC all the way! For the 1st person MC fans, walk me through the logic, I guess it has something to do with self inserting and immersion. Do you have same build as the MC? Tattoos where applicable? Same skin tone? Do you have a footlong for a dick? How is only the face the deal breaker for self inserting when you look nothing like the MC of a certain game?

Nebulous Shooter

Seeing the MC's face is no problem for me. Sometimes seeing the MC's reactions can be comical, too. I prefer third-person views ( or the option for it) during close physical interactions, such as kissing, sex, etc. Maybe I'm more voyeuristic as opposed to immersive. On the other hand, as others have said, POV is great for the girl to look adoringly at you before those intimate sessions. You have an awesome game guys. We appreciate the effort.

Lefty B

I've never had a problem seeing the MC's face personally but know there are others that feel differently. Other games have struggled with this too, especially during the more intimate scenes when you're trying to showcase the girls from different angles, but can't because of this very reason. In these scenarios, the typical end result is an awkward shot that is a watered down version of what it could have been. A healthy middle ground might be not going out of your way to reveal the MC just for the sake of it, but not being afraid to do so if it benefits the particular render/scene.

McFly

I don't like POV in AVN for the simple reason, for DAZ models there are usually ugly and/or stupid looking male models, unlike the female ones.... looks BB or so...Situationally POV is not always ideal, yes, but so far you have avoided showing MC, thank god....keep it up and don't suddenly change the direction of the game and that sets the development back to the beginning when you suddenly change to other angles and show the MC...... The best thing would be to just keep going. That would be fantastic, thank you

TastyCookie

The position of the camera / the POV can change a scene alot. You already have the feature by changing the view in specific Situations in the game. I dont mind seeing the MC. Good job, keep it up 🔥

TheNative

I'm not a fan of POV but I don't mind it either, a balance between POV (for those who like it) and showing the MC's face (for those who want to see it) could be fine to make everyone happy.

Zane

POV is personally my favorite. So +1 for pov

Paul Coffee

I would never make a game in POV because it's too limiting but I understand the appeal of POV especially if a cute girl looks you straight in the eyes smiling or blushing.

Lachi

I'm not really into POV. I kind of like seeing my MC (in general), but I don't mind it. Edited I'm just here to play the game!

Jonathan Hang

I like the balance you have now as far as POV goes. Personally don't want to see the MC's face. Some of the ways you hide his face are actually pretty hilarious and entertaining.

Thana

I would like to see the MC and finally see his face. I don’t really like the pov thing all that much.

KAL

POV is not important to me; I don't think of myself as the MC.

Xerus

I don't really mind seeing MC's face
