Thanks for the reaction! And yeah, Kpop can be very overwhelming at the beginning. I think to get the appeal is understanding that the music is only one part of the whole package. There's also the performance aspect, dance and choreo, the music videos, fashion and style, visuals, variety shows, the fandom culture, competition, a good amount of (sometimes toxic) "obsession", ... And in all of these aspects there's an incredible amount of professionalism but also a lot of experimenting and creativity. To me it's just way more dynamic and interesting than most of what we see in western pop these days. I don't know if this is something you'd be interesting to react to but this a really good 20 min video about the history of the Kpop industry to give you an idea how it all started, the different generations, the "Big 4" and so on: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kPS4tCHT6SA

I always tell people that South Korea excels at taking an idea and making it 10x better. An example would be the Korean potato dog, a variation of the corn dog.

So glad you reacted to this! If you want to go further down the Red Velvet rabbit hole, their Killing Voice performance is a good intro to some of their discography. ❤️ https://youtu.be/KEFNlx4ZIOU?si=rFNG_FVCuneid1eH

Wow! Thank you! You are giving us so much content to watch! That is truly amazing! Thanks a lot!! Also sorry to read about your injury! I hope you will have a smooth recovery process, though torn ACL unfortunately takes time to heal! I tried to answer some of your questions regarding KPop to my best knowledge in the comments of the KPop songs you already reacted to. Regarding the large amount of groups in KPop, I usually tell people who ask me, what KPop is, that Korea took the Boy and Girl Group concept and optimized it. Just like they did with say electronics (Samsung, LG e.g) or cars (KIA, Hyundai). In the past Korean electronics or cars were not that common, but today they are globally available, because they manufacture a high quality product. If that comparison makes any sense.

Not sure if the requester mentioned it, but EJAE (voice of Rumi) wrote this song and sang the demo for it. The demo can be found on YouTube. I wanted to answer your comment on the appeal for having multi-member groups in K-pop. The idea was to have different members with different strengths and visual/personality appeal to cater to a bigger audience. So, when you look at a group, you'll find members who were picked for their vocals, their dancing, or their visuals, and each will play to their strengths on stage/camera. The companies will also create personalities for the members so one girl is the cute one, another the sexy one, the tomboy etc. This is where some of the critiques of manufacturing come into play. In a 9-member group, there has to be someone every listener will identify with and then support. I also commented about how the age of groups come into play in Kpop. Red Velvet is one of them. They debuted in 2014, and their contracts just expired. It was announced this year that some of their members will be leaving, and their promotions have taken a back seat compared to Aespa, the new girl group out of the same entertainment company.
