Weโve been working on the modeling in ZBrush and later doing the retopology along with the addition of lumps in Blender, where we also mapped and opened the UVs for later texturing in Substance.
The reddish tone you see in the images is provisional. Later, we will try different gradients for the gummy bear's body in Substance that will better fit the Inventing Room rangeโpinks, purples, violets, fuchsias, etc. Some parts of the body, such as the claws, teeth, snout, and eyes, will have a different tone to better distinguish them and prevent the design from feeling too homogeneous.
The silhouette is finished, and we've saved a less grotesque version without lumps. This allows us to simulate a mutation in real-time using BlendShapes, should we decide to do so in the end.
Where did the inspiration come from? Well, no more and no less than from the film "The Elephant Man" by David Lynch. His deformed and sickly appearance was a very valid reference for our particular vision of the universe inside the factory.
Weโre also sharing a vignette from the original storyboard, where the idea of giving the Feral Gummy Bear lumps was first conceived. At that time, some protuberances were already sketched (in a very rough way) on the surface of his body. We will keep you informed!
