Community post #4: now and then
Added 2021-03-31 22:03:55 +0000 UTCAlice: Hello everyone! On today’s community post we’re gonna talk about how Marcus and Iulius changed as characters.
Around one year ago, we created them separately for a D&D campaign, "Serendipity". We didn’t plan anything with these characters, we only wanted to play them and have fun, and we did! We had a blast for a couple of months and we didn’t really think about working with them. Things changed when I started studying comic book writing at a private school: we knew that Marcus and Iulius had a story to tell, but we also knew that some changes needed to be made.
Don’t get me wrong, their D&D version is totally fine: they’re still complex characters, but they lacked that agency and intensity that main characters usually have. D&D characters are, even in roleplay heavy campaigns, made to be part of a cooperative story with your party; however, we soon realised that the story we were making needed two stronger main characters.
Compared to their D&D self, canon!Marcus and canon!Iulius are more mature, more intense, and older. Marcus’s personality changed: he’s much more reserved, he’s not that dorky and has a drier sense of humour. Iulius has a different background and his personality changed according to his new background: he’s now self confident, more assertive and not naive at all.
I’d love to say more but that would mean entering the spoiler area!!!! So I’ll stop ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
Did something like this happen to you too? Did some of your characters change when writing and/or imagining them in another universe/media? I’d love to know! ヽ(*・ω・)ノ
