Exclusive Video: True Beginner Out-takes

Friends:

Nate and I have a lot of fun when we film these videos and a lot of good stuff never makes it to the final edit. So, as a tiny mid-week treat, we humbly present this short video of us messing up and looking dumb.

It's hump day!

I don't see anything specific for the book, please forgive me if I'm treading toes here. I want to get a copy (maybe two) but had a question. Or two. Are you doing any "specials" for your Patron set? Just curious whether I should go ahead and pre-order, or wait for a "special offer" and 2: Do you have anything set up to get a signed hardcopy for your long-time fans? As I said, please forgive me if I'm in the wrong spot or time to ask these, but I've not been around much lately - in and out of the hosp, and sched for more surgery later this month - I don't want to miss any deadlines, etc.

Howard Tuckey

Could be! @Nate, what nationality were you mimicking?

Sean McGown

You sure it wasn't Giuseppe the Sicilian voice?

Alex

Rex and Nate, If that's all you have for bloopers you guys are killing it. Heck, we already new that. Thanks for sharing!

Ralph T. Muehleisen

Love it!

George Shaw

I must agree with the guys above. Showing mistakes and imperfections and repeating that it doesn’t matter to make things perfect is something which helps a lot to get into this hobby. Thanks to your Woodworking for humans, I have now built terrible but functional stand for my daughter’s hi-fi, stand for my son’s practice sword. two slatted benches and accumulated 11 planes. Eleven in three months... And a workbench. If I have not seen that perfection is not the point, I would have stopped long ago and missed so much fun. Thank you, Rex, you do great job of making this stuff approachable.

Otakar Schön

I agree... love the wood working for humans series and I like that you often say you need more practice at something. It makes doing this stuff much more approachable and give me the feeling that I can do it as well! At 63 I am finding all this sawing, planing ( especially planing), boring holes, and using a hand axe exhilarating and satisfying! Its both psychological and physical therapy!

Gerald Eddy

Rex... You're the god of Woodworking for Humans!!! Hail Rex

Frans van Ballegooijen

I know exactly how to take that. I'm no God of woodwork and I'm okay with that. I'm a teacher. I'm happy to be one.

Rex Krueger

Wow. Legally blind and still at it. Impressive!!!!

Rex Krueger

Very glad to provide a little relief!

Rex Krueger

The hard part about sharing my shop is that I have to STOP talking to myself.

Rex Krueger

Please don't take this the wrong way, Rex, but I love that your woodworking is human. I love Paul Sellers and Frank Klaus and Roy Underhill but they can sometimes live up on a pedestal as English/Hungarian/American gods of the ancient art of making wood in to beautiful things. Your work has always felt very approachable and your techniques don't seem like they require a lifelong trek up the Mount Olympus of woodworking to learn.

Alexander May

At the end when you dropped the waste piece; that was me all day today. Thank you for making me feel better.

Matt Evans-Koch

Thank you for the bloopers. By the way, thanks to your sawing video, I made my first ever bird house for my mom today. Sure it is a jr. high project, but I was never allowed woodshop in the 80s. Now at 45 I am enjoying learning these beginner skills. I can not see the cutting line with my hand saw, so here is what I did. I took the measurement. Made my mark, then used my square to draw the line. Then I took a puece of wood the same width of the board I was cutting and clamped its edge to the line I just made. Instant cutting guide for the hand saw. I simply kept my hand on the side of the blade so that it remained touching my guide and thus stayed in its kerf. Thank you for your videos, they are a great gelp to me. I am legally blind, thus I have to figure out a different way sometimes.

Paul Ladd

I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one with "the dropsies".

Michael Bennett

That was fun. I nice break in an otherwise mostly stressful day.

Jeff Stauffer

Awesome. When I talk to myself and drop crap there is no one there to enjoy it. I need a shop buddy.

Stephen Marchesani

Thanks, good fun right there. The fact that it was short I guess is a testament to you guys not messing things up too much.😜

Sean O'Neill

Next video all in the norwegian farmer voice, OK?

Sean McGown

Thanks for the midweek laughs. I'd happily watch more blooper videos!

Alex Lopatka

There is nothing more reassuring than seeing someone else drop the workpiece on the floor!

Michael Anderson

:)

Ton Wanten

Well said...

Russell Gough

Looking dumb, no you guys are not dumb. It looks more like you guys are having fun, and just being human.
