Early Access Video: What can you do with a Stanley No. 6?

Happy Monday morning, y'all!

Yeah, I'm not really that chipper either, but I'm faking it for my own mental health. I've got client-work coming out my ears, deadlines looming, and a ton of home-owner stuff that absolutely MUST get done.

It's going to be a week.

Anyway, the content must go on and so I give you my discussion of the Stanley No. 6 plane. Lot's of people don't like this model and it's often dismissed as useless, but I think there's a just a gap between it's intended use and what it's really good for.

Stanley designed this model as a fore plane, but unless you happen to be the Hulk, it's a little heavy for that use. But so what? There are several other things you can do with a high-quality plane of large size. Also, these planes tend to be cheap, so they're worth picking up if you like to work by hand.

Please do leave me a comment and let me know your thoughts.

Hope you had a safe and quiet weekend!

I'm really pleased you liked it! It's getting a better than average response on YouTube, which is amazing to me, since it seems like such a specific topic. I'll never understand the Youtube algorithm.

Excellent Video! didn't have time to watch on early access, but I'm so happy it popped up on my feed :) :) Thank you, Rex!

totally agreed. I have a planer, but I just can't justify a jointer, especially when any idiot with a fore plane can do all the same stuff. It just takes a little time, and you get a free workout. You mention other brands. I didn't mention it in the video, but the no 6 I show is a sargent. Fine plane.

Thanks for this. Quickies like this are great because they show your skill at explaining stuff. Good job as always. Many of us don't have (and don't have room for) electric planers and jointers. A fore plane requires work, but it's more fun than going to the gym. Currently on Ebay you can pick up a non-Stanley that could be refurbed/restored in a few hours for $20 to $30.
