Foregone Fables Dust Guide - Introduction
Added 2018-05-08 09:40:09 +0000 UTCA common saying among religious folks is that "man was born from dust" - however, the exact opposite it true. Dust was born from man. Dust is the creation of man, made of magic. It was perhaps the oldest form of magic ever created; it was so long ago, that Dust today seems like a natural resource for all purposes. So much so, that no one understands what Dust truly is... The attempt of humans, the bane of nature, to wield nature's wrath in the tips of their fingers. Many abilities derived from different types of Dust have been perfected and became part of a newer line of magical forces, the Seasonal Maidens. However the creation of Dust continued to grow and develop after that, and other types of it have powers that even the Maidens do not possess.
Like most early magical conduits, Dust's powers are elemental, though it would appear some forms of Dust aren't element-based, hinting that Dust has been made and improved on for a long period of time. It can be either liquid or crystals, which are often naturally in the form of powder that gave the Dust its current name. Liquid Dust can be forged into solid and vice versa, and humans can forge objects made of Dust, but it requires extreme delicacy to prevent the Dust from setting off.
When exerted force on, be it through physical impact, heat, electricity, or a person's aura, the Dust will trigger and consume itself in a way that's usually deadly. Humans have been shown to release such Dust bursts with their aura in battle, keeping liquid in containers or sewing crystals in their clothes. This was deadly to the user as much as it was to their victims. More daring warriors have been shown to infuse Dust with their own body by digesting crystals or jabbing them into their skin, or by swallowing or injecting liquids.
More advanced usages of Dust are in weaponry. Firearms loaded with Dust ammunition and weapons infused with Dust are not uncommon among the huntsmen. With today's advancements in technology, there have been experimentation over machines that will safely trigger Dust without the need for an aura, and robots and vehicles using Dust are being tested on. However, Dust does seem to require Remnant's atmosphere to function, and civilizations nowadays need to resort to other forms of energy should they ever attempt to reach outer space.
There are ten known types of Dust: Light, Fire, Water, Wind, Earth, Thunder, Gravity, Shade, Metal, and Crystal. In addition, several alloys have been made: Wind and Water form Ice, Fire and Earth create Magma, Water and Fire combine into Smoke, Glass and Fire form Obsidian, Glass and Rock form Diamond, and Earth and Light produce Nature. Despite common belief, the type of Dust is not dependent upon its color, and any element can come in any color. For each of those types, an entry will be made in the future to describe in depth, though other, unrelated blogs will be released alongside those.
Until then, say goodbye...
