Everyone’s Girlfriend Evelyn, July Update 002 (development sketches)

Hopefully you’ve had a chance to see the animation I released earlier this month titled Evelyn Bones. In it, you can see a number of more complex rig features than the ones used in the first animation I shared, including controllable meshes for her hair, eyes, face, lips, and ears, and is a decent showcase of what we can accomplish. There’s a low quality version posted here on Patreon and a higher quality version you can download from the Everyone’s Girlfriend Evelyn Dropbox folder.

Animating Evelyn’s head has taught me a lot about rigging illustrations for animation, and I have a good idea now how I want to handle Evelyn’s body. Included in this post is the basic plan for creating Evelyn’s body parts, and the sketch for her default pose, as well as two default outfits. 

First, I have to draw Evelyn’s body, including some clothing items, and break it down into pieces so I can export it to Spine. After that, it’s time to rig her body for animation, include her clothing to be animated using the same bones, and include ’skin’ options to swap out clothing easily.

Before the month is out, I’ll share with all of you the illustration for Evelyn’s body, including a breakdown of the assets included. It’s gonna be a lot of work, but animating Evelyn’s head proved that we can do this, and it’s worth the effort! The virtual girlfriend project continues! 😃
