The shot rang out, and Rain felt her arm burn as a bullet grazed her skin. “Fuck!” she yelped as she felt the sizzling burn of silver. If there was cover, she could could use her strength and speed to overpower him, but the hunter had taken that into account and chased her into open ground where she was an easy target.

With a massive paw clutching her wound Rain took a few bounding steps towards a small cliff and dropped to the beach below. Before her was a vast ocean that she could not swim, but behind her was a cave.

Stepping in she peered into the darkness, frantically hoping her eyes would adjust sooner. A few steps in she looked to the sand upon the floor and noticed dried blood and old drag marks that the rains had not reached. The sudden realization dawned on her that he knows about this cave, and has dragged his quarry out of it.

“Fucking... fuck fuck!” she muttered, quietly wishing she'd remembered some of the Hindi curse words she's learned from her father.

“If they're dragged out this way... then there can't be an exit...” She muttered, peering deeper into the cave. Then a small alcove caught her eye. It was far too small for a werewolf of seven feet to squeeze into, but could accommodate a girl of 4'10”.

“He's probably expecting me to make a final stand all wolfed out.” she said as she reverted to her human for, her hand still on her wounded arm, “So he wouldn't be expecting me to get the drop on him!”

Slipping into shadowy nook, Rain took three deep breaths to calm her nerves, then released the hold on her arm, and firmly grasped a rock with her bloodied hand.

A moment later, she heard footsteps.
