Orb: On the Movements of the Earth 1x09 "This Is What It Means... To Learn Something, I Think." - reaction & review
Added 2025-05-10 02:02:33 +0000 UTCHey everyone! Here it is - my reaction to episode 9 of Orb!! Omg this one made me feel so much for Piast!! Like what a bummer, after a whole life (or two) of research, to really have the truth in front of you that your answer was wrong. But if this show has taught us anything, it's that wrong answers aren't meaningless! I also love Oczy's unbridled hope here! Can't wait to see what happens next! Enjoy! ~ MH

Hey Leonie! Yay! Glad you got to see it! I agree that they are just way too good at getting me attached to these characters quickly! And showing just how much of an impact one concept can have. I love the scene with Count Piast! Oof, that's so true that at this time they don't even have the certainty of knowing for sure that heliocentrism is correct. Wasn't Jolenta's dialogue really beautiful? I know, Oczy was brave here! I thought of your fic right away with the reading/writing thing! ;) I know, the death scene was so well done!!!

2025-05-20 19:13:07 +0000 UTCHi Melissa, I finally have time to watch your Orb reaction after my birthday weekend! I was especially looking forward to your reaction to episode 9, since it’s one of my favorite episodes of Orb. There really aren’t many anime that can make you cry over a character you only met two episodes earlier — but that just shows how well Orb handles character writing, and how impactful the exploration of heliocentrism is. They did such an incredible job at portraying the importance these studies have on people, not only on those that are making the studies, that are spending their whole lives researching about that subject, and, in the end, their theory might actually be completely wrong, making it seem like their life was a waste, but also on those like Oczy, that knowing that the center is not on the bottom of the universe will make him able to appreciate the beauty of the Earth. The scene where Count Piast was giving the key to Badeni was so impactful, you could truly see that he wanted to know the truth to be known, but he also didn't want all those thousand of years of research to go down the drain. In fact, we all know that the heliocentric model is the correct one now, but for all we know, at the time, this model could also be wrong, and this whole anime could be a search for something that isn't the truth. The reflection about reading and writing by Jolenta by the end of the episode was also really interesting, it is true that this is our way of communicating with the people from the past, and it's so interesting to see how things have evolved. And her talk in the midle of the episode with Oczy about how this Earth is way too beautiful to just be a place for humans to pay for their sins was also really deep, and I think it helped Oczy to understand his feelings better. Big respect for Oczy for being able to surprass his trauma, and actually looking at Venus, looking for the truth. That scene with Venus was also beautiful. That episode also inspired me to include a part in my fanfic where Oczy is taught how to read and write. But in my version, it’s the reader who teaches Oczy, not Jolenta. The end of the episode, with the death of Count Piast, was just heartbreaking really. They directed the scene so well, and the animation was just beautiful.

2025-05-13 19:40:43 +0000 UTCThat's the thing, like we don't even think about it today! You're so right, you really can't blame anyone for doing their best with the resources they had! That's interesting, so even today that theory still has some use!! Ahhh I was hoping you'd recognize it! Thank you!!

2025-05-11 20:43:13 +0000 UTCWell said at the end. It makes me feel guilty for taking ALL THIS into consideration, also writing and reading! But how could we know? Because of them we have answers and has become standard. The worries and anguish they felt got smaller with each step. It is awful to feel like it was all for nothing but often universal innovators are not recognized during their time. And sometimes an even bigger discovery or truth overshadows some who seek to help better understand the world. They all matter though. It is definitely not for nothing. And come on with no technology this was tricky. You really can’t blame anyone, especially then, for getting anything wrong. They made huge leaps with limited tools and good sense. But hey my professor stated even though we know the sun is at the center we still use Earth as a starting point when we had our little star finders. Using the Earth as a center still aids us today. It’s still meaningful. I appreciate the Jojo gear. So fitting for Orb 💫
